Hall of Mirrors
Feb 22, 2006 Full Version 13 commentsThe modification is loosely based on the movie "Equilibrium" with the main focus of the work being based upon implementing a new combat system...
"In a futuristic world, a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston is a top ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist the rules. When he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-altering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce the strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the only person capable of overthrowing it"
The modification is loosely based on the movie "Equilibrium" with the main focus of the work being based upon implementing a new combat system similar to the "gun kata" seen in some of the action scenes of the movie. The "Gun Kata" allows the player to take on several adversaries at the same time with dual weapons and gun them down in unison, much like what we see in the action movies of today where the hero wields dual handguns and shoots at different targets with each hand. This sort of stylish gun battle is what you can expect to see once the mod is released to the public.
The mod's focus is pure action and style, if you like shooting enemies and gunning them down in the coolest way possible then this mod just might be what you've always been looking for!
The search is on to find the hottest mod of 2009, so if you
believe this is the one - vote for it. Everybody can vote all
they want, however, guest votes only count in the event

Hello community,
I've been looking at some of the old Hall of Mirrors media, and I must say I miss it a lot. Working on the mod was a great experience and I feel like I learned a lot and had a lot of fun in the process. I am also happy to say that as far as a Max Payne 2 mod is concerned, it was VERY popular which surprised me quite a bit. When I started working on this I never expected it to be anything that huge, definitely not huge enough to get magazine coverage all over Europe.
Alas, I do regret not having time to follow up on it with a patch or a sequel of some sort on the Max Payne 2 engine. But perhaps it's better to leave people wanting until you have something different to show them. That was always my philosophy when working on HoM. Our mod wasn't just a repackaged Max Payne 2 compilation of weapons/effects/music/maps. It delivered an original twist through gameplay, and allowed people to re-experience the game they had once paid full retail for (Max Payne 2). In the end, isn't that what mods are about? To let you experience more for less?
It is in this light that I want to let our loyal fans know this: After looking through the web and finding so much stuff about HoM, I have decided that I really want to continue it on a new engine. I have purchased a copy of Unreal Tournament 3 in the hopes of testing it out for a possible modification. I mentioned before L4D, but I was dissapointed to find that the SDK was never released in full as I hoped it would be. I am still considering the possibility of using Source as our next engine so don't fret!
That being said, I am working to reunite the Hall of Mirrors team again for another modding effort. It is my hope that the quality of our next release will not only match that of HoM, but surpass it.
As with any foray into new territory, I am interested in recruiting talent to help out with this new endeavor. If you are interested in helping build HoM 2, or have any ideas or suggestions please drop me a line here or email me at homteam@gmail.com
Take care,
Rico

alright i got some really really good news. i saw a mistake that the devs made (maybe it's mine for installing the upgrades mod FYI but it was nothing like this)
and it involves huge blood explosions when you trow a grenade. it rocks man. and now this is much much MUCH better than gunkatas 3.0
a mistake that did something good!
No mistake, I put it there as an easter egg of sorts :-P
oh and i almost forgot. this mod has certain features that gunkatas doesnt. so ill give this mod more credit for that.
its a great mod anyway. considering that it started it all and stuff.
the features are:
ability to use the weapons the soldiers use.
Great music. (gunkatas has that too but i like the trailer music alot.)
last but not least. it started it all!
Played the mod, it was OK but it wasnt as good as gunkatas. the only reason this one isnt as good is because this mod is outdated. i know that it would be a awesome mod (even better than gunkatas) if it was still updated.
but gunkatas was a steal. you guys are the original.
im not complaining about this mod. im just saying it would be alot better if it was updated.
i know your not going to do it. but ill accept and respect that.
I hope you have good luck with your next mod!
yeaH man...it sucks tHe team sHouldn´t continue supporting tHe fans of tHis awesome movie...
i almost forgot. the best part about this mod is that the gunkatas are different than gunkatas 3.0
so they both are just as good.
Wow. this mod is kinda like gunkatas but i didnt like the way they changed the "character got hit" effects. i like the way hall of mirrors left the gore the way it is (if changed the decals like gunkatas, even better!). i havent tried the mod. but ill download it.
lastly, if gunkatas did their mod out of not liking you guys. then i hope someone rips off gunkatas like gunkatas ripped off you.
downloaded
very nice, thanks for the effort
Also, for those of you who are curious:
The EQ unkatas mod accounts for most of the reason why we do not plan to develop any more mods/update HoM in Max Payne 2. We simply got fed up with some of the people in the community and their petty grudges. I still to this day have no idea what the heck our team ever did to these people that made them so angry at us, nor do I care.
Just please don't compare us to them, this mod is the polar opposite of theirs. We built this mod for us and for the community, those were our only motives. They built theirs to "spite" us somehow (don't ask me how that works) and when they weren't "famous" they got mad and started spewing bile.
So at the risk of sounding like a jerk I say this: To all you guys who think our mod is so much worse than theirs - Good for you. Have fun playing. But remember this, if you have nothing good or constructive to say here, just go post on their profile and get out of here. I am sick of hearing about the issue, and the more I remember it the less I feel like developing further content for this modification.
You can think what you want, but what the poster below you said is true.
Oh and what are you doing posting here if you didn't like the mod? I'm always open to constructive feedback, but the way you're acting, you sound a lot like those guys with the other mod who seem to desperately want attention.
I'm sorry to tell you that regardless of how you feel about our mod, I am completely and 100% satisfied and happy with how it turned out, and how it was received by the majority of the community. We made a fun mod we wanted to play, and we were the first to start it, and the first to finish it.
Also, please don't talk like you know anything about the community. It is obvious you know nothing about the history of this mod so don't misinform others please.
Have fun gaming, but don't crap on our parade. Especially when we worked our butts off for over a year to provide you with our "monotonous" mod.
