This mod is still active. There was a long period of restructuring, after they lost critical members from the mod, including the project's founder, who was recruited into the Quake 4 project by Raven Software (yes, that is THE Quake 4). Updates have begun anew on the mod's homepage. They are currently looking for a variety of positions that need to be filled.
Since the project's founder, KungFuSquirrel, who is no longer with the project, was the one who first created this ModDB profile, it is unlikely that this page will be updated anytime soon. I suggest that any interested viewers instead bookmark the mod's homepage at Hl-nightwatch.net.
Totally agreed, dethtoll. It was a completely stupid decision to make and I'm really disappointed with the team. It had a very unique look to it and I remember back in the days, where it actually progressed, when I just couldn't move away my eyes from the screenshots.

Sounds kind of right BUT then why not just write Build stage:alpha testing? Seems a bit more reasonably, although prehaps you're right :\
I think that when a mod is "Internal Alpha Released", it doesn't mean that regular fans can download it and play but instead it's being tested by the mod-team. I’m not really certain, but I guess it’s something like that.
