I'd argue unnecessary. But then again, I love the first Half-Life.
What usually works lovely on these white wall textures are some sort of vents with machinery behind them.
Look what I did some years back.. Same texture as yours.

How about one of these pushing cards or some Black Mesa advertisement poster? Eventually let one of the lights in the far back flicker and add some Steam next to a pipe letting it appear broken.
