Hello Moddb!

After a long, long silence, I present you the first update for 2015 (and the first in years!) of Deflections. Yay! So, what's been up with me and my mod? Well, for starters, and as I mentioned many times before, this mod is not and never will be, dead. The past couple of years I had absolutely no free time to continue it. But, after I took my degree in the University (finally!) and after I finished, last year, with my service in the army, I am finally back in modding.

What are the plans for Deflections? Well, for the time being, I am making new maps and not remaking old ones. Though it has been very little work left to do on some of the old ones, I will do it at a later time. For now, I work a chapter that takes place in the cold and remote Sector G Black Mesa Water Control Station which, along with the Hydroelectric Dam, provide clean water throughout the facility. Well, at least it provided before the events unfolded after the Resonance Cascade :) . You are there just after Gordon Freeman has opened the dam's hatches.

Also, after the completion of this Chapter, I'll finally start to do the outdoor maps. As you may remember, Deflections takes part both in Black Mesa and in a city during the Portal Storms. I said many times that I'll start working on the second part of the mod but... I do love the indoor areas of Black Mesa much better :) But, after I wrap the indoor maps up, it's time to get a hand on the outdoor ones!

In addition, I plan to make a new trailer or teaser, to show some of the action and areas of the mod. Again, I planned many times to make one, but I did not had the rig to do it. I was working (for many years) on a laptop that had a graphics card that did not support OpenGL, so no FRAPS and no VHE for me back then. How I made my mod till recently? On the very first version of WorldCraft! Many of you may not even know the editor, but, let's just say it was ancient stuff :) Since I have a new PC now, I work exclusively (and finally) on VHE. And I can at last record stuff on FRAPS. As for the old maps made in WorldCraft, they all have been reworked through VHE and are ready to go. Expect, as I said, of a small number of them (around 6 in a mappack of 80+ maps).

So, when to expect a new update? Hopefully, you will not wait so long this time. In the next couple of months I plan to have both some new pics and a new video on Deflections page! Cross your fingers!

As for InDeFi, the group which I was part and was working on two other mods, The Infected (HL) and Firestorm (OF), has gone silent. Both my teammates, 23-down and Neclipse, have so many stuff to do, that they just don't have time right now to continue their mods. And I can't help either, since I have my hands full with Deflections. But, they do not consider their projects dead, but simply "on ice". Just as how Deflections was till today. Be kind and pay a visit on their mods' pages too. Maybe this whole thing will start a modding fever among us once again :) :

Because GoldSource is still great, it doesn't matter that Source is newer or has better graphics.

he's doin a hl1 mod on hl1 because black mesa is hard to re-create in hl2...

In any case, who gives a **** what engine it being used? If they want to mod HL1, so what? Don't stop people from their passion.

@Icefalme:Well modding for the GldSource engine is much more fun and easy than for the source engine, and personally i loved HL1 more than HL2.And nope, for a month now i am back :)
@Zanta_Claws:Yep that too,it's very difficult to recreate HL1 in Source.You need a big and talented team for that!

I think a good HL 1 mod is way better than anything HL 2 can throw out, and it brings back memories of old Black Mesa.

Well i dont agree with your comment completely, i believe half-life 1 mods can be just as good as source, but look at mods like Zombie Panic for goldsource, you can't say it didn't get better when they made it in source can you? i like half-life 1 mods, but i like source just as much.

If you ask me graphics dont really matter that much, i would rather have the maximum of hours of gameplay possible than have a game with the best graphics out also, there are alot more problems with the goldsource engine than the outdatedness of it, it also has alot of limitations modding wise, limitations that source doesn't have.

Also the mod looks great, when this comes out im sure to tackle and beat it,
Nice concept, Nice bit of story, and i like how your actually putting the player in the seven hour war and its always nice to relive black mesa.

Well ,what you say is true, Source is a completely awesome game engine by itself and can produce one of the best results out there.People like us though are more interesting to the retro style and memories the original gldsource engine can produce, something that Source cannot do.And i believe, every hl1 mod is uniqe, cause it doesn't matter how many mods placed in Black Mesa you will play or how many mods of HL1 you play in general, they always have this similarity and in the same time this uniqness compared to the original HL1.Something that the Source engine doesn't offer :)

Well honestly i would more like to experience the seven hour war in Both engines, rather than just on gold source Mods seem to be being developed for it. but dont seem to be out for it yet.

Ive noticed that similarity, but the problem with it is the fact that think of the modifications that have nothing to do with half-life, and their only useing half-life as a base for the modification, they dont necessarily want their mod to have that similarity as they are trying to make a new game in general not just a modification, although that is what it is.

Source isn't necessarily suppost to have that similarity, its suppost to remind you of HL2 instead, Think about it this way, in afew years people will be clinging to Source trying for the same reason as people seem to love HL1 mods.

Even now i prefer Source but that doesn't mean i dont Like goldSource, Ill play HL1 mods all the same, Also im watching this mod now keep up the good work.
