I just played through this mod and I think it was good.

The mod has some good points:
In the beginning it sure has the right Half Life 2 feeling.
The challenges are a bit different than the original Half Life 2.
You often have to fight different types of enemies at the time. The way this is done in this mod is close to perfect and results in some good fights.
Some of the puzzles require you to think quite a bit, and yet they are not frustrating. This is very good and rarely found in other mods.

And bad points:
Some of the fights are a bit too hard and require lots of retries to win them.
Often there is too little rocket ammo laying around, so you'll need to make perfect shots.
The levels are way too dark and you often have to spend time just waiting for the flashlight to charge.
The "rotating thingy" near the end is bad. This puzzle depends too much on pure trial and error. (In fact this bit was so lame that I chose to noclip past it.) It would have helped if the player was able to see it from the side in its entirety before trying to climb down.
The final battle is lame and too hard.
The later part of the mod gets worse. The citadel part is truely bad.
The radio story is boring and is really not needed, its annoying as ¤%&¤ to wait for those looong boring speeches. Basically its just some dude telling you his interpretation of whats going on in City17.. explaining you things that you already know from playing Half Life 2.
You should not use the name Gordon Freeman.. As other users have said.. his story has already been told, we don't need yet another one telling us how he destroyed the combine... in yet another way. (No, not even if its disguised as a dream or something.)
During many of the levels I experienced graphical errors that do not show up when I play the normal Half Life 2. Are you sure all the maps are built/compiled right?

Keep up the good work, and perhaps remake the ending and the story a bit, and you will have a truly perfect mod.

sorry pal but you did not need to noclip past the rotating thingy. i did that in one try. I thought it was pretty cool, if graphically failing to convey the combine.

Excellent mod.

PROs: Very high attention to detail in mapping, decent gameplay flow, and excellent level design in later levels, FUN TO PLAY.

CONs: Poor level design in early levels, lack of autosaves (especially painful in early levels), wavering difficulty curve.

Details: There are a lot of them, making the whole place look fantastic. It seems the details diminish in later levels but given the setting, it's understandable.

Level design: The level design is good up to a point. While the gameplay flow is linear and easy to keep track of, there are a few locations that are unrealistic. Like many of the truck loading docks in the early levels look nice but they are built into the side of an alley. How's a truck going back up to them in a alley? Perhaps I'm nit-picking.

FUN TO PLAY: The level design and the awesome music make this game totally fun. You feel like a bad-*** again.

Difficulty curve: I usually play a game on its hardest mode first. The mod was not hard to press through for the most part, but I had to turn the difficulty all the way down to easy in a few places...including the gunship battle, strider battle, and the final battle. Not sure if you playtested on hard, but there were just too many guys to deal with in those places.

Lack of autosaves: As stated before here, the story elements are turned into frustrating intersessions when they have to be repeated, especially if the player dies toward the end of the level without saving on his own. Players expect autosaves after certain points.

Overall, solid job!! Enjoyable mod with loads of good in it. Keep up the good work.

I don't think it was too hard but you have to reload sometimes and Quicksave often.

I amtrying to install this game to play it but the zip file comes without an installer or even folders. The zip file simply has all the game's files in one big folder. I tried rebuilding the directory and it's still not appearing.

I restarted steam, I have the files in my SourceMods folder under that name "Calamity" and since the zip file doesn't have any of the game files separated, I rebuilt the directory using the file paths displayed by the zip program.

Please help with install.

The actual mod folder is inside the "Half-Life 2: Calamity Packaged folder. Extract the "Half-Life 2: Calamity" folder to sourcemods.

Got it. I usually drag-and-drop files from winzip so i thus disallowed the extractor to build the directory. Thanks.

I was always asking myself why you didn't invent your own person. Freeman liberated city 17 another way why can't this be in another city with another character? A mod is much more interesting when it fits with the original story.

Nevertheless this mod is one of the elite when it comes to singleplayer mods! Great adventure!
