The Gunreal Beta is going great (if not slower than originally anticipated), and we're up to patch 5 (one more on the way, and it could be the one that brings us to the final release). We've also given the Auto Updater-hungry Mac users a new ingame notification feature, to inform them of all new patches. Now the Mac users too can return those Psychic Receivers that most game companies still think everyone has; new patches are in for some quick downloads.

For those new to Gunreal, here's the trailer (showing an older build of the game):

We've also got the "How To Test" video on Moddb, for those who haven't checked it out yet (you can also watch it on Gunreal.com, on the download page), and for those interested, there's also the sound demo MP3, showing off some of Gunreal's sound design.

The final version of Gunreal (hopefully delivered in the next patch - not sure yet) will sport 2 different flavors of gore to choose from: Blood, and Blue Acid. On first bootup, you'll see this screen, giving you the choice.

Download Zip/Mac version - (has ingame update notice, instead of auto-updater) [Mac users read this]
Gunreal.com - (highest res trailer and "How To Test" video, plus the all-important bug-reporting forums)

---
And finally, lots of screenshots/art is posted here on Moddb.

Happy fragging!

---
Notable recent updates:
- Mac & Zip users now getting ingame notification of updates (a button appears on the main-screen, which takes you to the download page)
- New Turret (almost finished)
- New loading screen setup with fading effects on match-begin
- Shopping Terminals now have health bars, and regenerate health when not taking damage
- New "Healing Ward" feature for CTF (unfinished). Flag-carriers can crouch and hold still to charge up a healing blast that effects all nearby players (including enemies).
- ...a bunch of other stuff

Major Upcoming Changes:
- Completely new match-setup screen (going back to the way you used to setup matches in UT99, but heavily revised)
- A new gore style to choose from (and updated gore in general)
- Tons of minor updates/fixes/rebalances

I think it's unfair MSU does only acknowledge those mods made with the current engine. Concerning visual brilliance and presentation your mod should deserve some more public recognition.

I know - and Red Orchestra won! I'm saying it would be nice of Epic, if they would still acknowledge people are modding for their prior generation.
At least the Sonic game, this one and a few others still stand out from todays mods in the competition, and are equally well produced - just on the old engine.
Should be some "oldtimers" awards for dedicated teams like that (though that doesn't sound very nice. sounds old :( )

You wouldn't say that if you went and played some of the new UT3 mods going in the contest.

Thats a bit blunt, i disagree.
Just because somethings newer, it doesnt mean the older things should be thrown into the shadows. Out of Hell(probably one of the most epic mods ever being made), Killing floor(just straight baddassery zombie fest), Ballistic Weapons(Best weapons pack ever made for ut2004, top notch stuff from developers who listen to the community), and that one medieval mod that was like 4Gb big in file size... never got it working on my mac(i think the makers of it went on to make a retail game after that).

Anyways, yeah the MSCU has come and gone for UT2004. I just disagree that all of the new UT3 mods are worthy of overshadowing some of the UT2004 ones.

Couldn't agree more with your comment.
It's sad to see our industry just ignore true gems just because they aren't as shiny as other mods or don't pack as many polygons as other games. The big push is graphics these days but it seems that many devs forgot how to properly design and balance gameplay. Something which 'older' devs and games of old seemed to master since the graphics took a back seat.

Just my opinion but old school games/mods were gameplay > graphics but now a days its graphics > everything. There are still some gems out there but for the most part the focus is in the wrong spot in my opinion ;)

The mods is relly looking awesome, the better use of physics sure are welcome. Now, i really dunno why, but those weapons make Quake come into my mind. Maybe because they don't look as colorful as the vanilla ones, or maybe because overall it seems much more violent than the original game.

omg it's a realism mod with scifi weapons. the cs aiming system, sprinting, and stopping to shoot like all other realism games. It's kind of awkward... also, buying system is cs-related too. and grenades. I don't like this realism trend.
