DO NOT START GRIMM FROM THE MODS MENU!
STARTING / INSTALLATION INSTRUCIONS MULTIPLATFORM
- Manually create a new directory called 'grimm' (lower case) in your Doom 3 folder.
- Unrar/unzip the RAR or ZIP file you downloaded into this folder.
- Create a shortcut to Doom 3 on your desktop
- Edit the shortcut and add the following to it's target: +set fs_game grimm
Example: "C:\Program Files\Doom 3\DOOM3.exe" +set fs_game grimm
Where "C:\Program Files\Doom 3\" would be the installation directory for your Doom3 installation.
If you still decide to start grimm from the mods folder, then after loading grimm, open the console and type 'exec autoexec.cfg'

Known issues & bugs:
Issue: Sometimes after switching very quickly between weapons the torch doesn't light up anything.
Fix: Switch to a different weapon and back
Issue: The game is far too dark!
Fix(es) There are many ways to fix this. You can adjust light levels using the g_brightness and g_gamma console options
Issue: Particles sometimes turn into black squares.
Fix: Save your game, restart Doom 3 and load your last saved game.
Issue: The game is too hard!
Fix: Play it on an easier mode, there is absolutely no shame in that whatsoever.
Grimm is harder than other games, especially on Hard. I myself have not even tested Nightmare mode but I am sure it's possible.
Can you play Grimm on nightmare mode? Make a movie on it and post it on youtube!
Issue: The game is too easy!
Fix: Play it on a harder difficulty mode, if you claim you can play it on nightmare... make a video of it and post it on youtube! :)
Issue: What is Grimm's Challenge?
Answer: It is a battle arena where you can hone your skills with the Scythe, quite addictive as well.

SO WHAT IS GRIMM QUEST FOR THE GATHERER'S KEY?

It's a fantasy hack&slash game with a lot of platforming elements that you might find in games like the Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider series, but from a First Person perspective. The world that players enter is wrought with danger. There are traps and enemies around each corner, coupled with pitfalls and abysses to cross. Cunning is often more important than quick reflexes (but those help too). The world of Grimm offers no remorse! Players will get very basic information and will have to learn how to travel this world by trial and error. Each weapon will require skill and has a learning curve. Most weapons have special attacks that can be used.

Background
Heaven and Hell are at war and have been closed off to new souls. Human souls now wander in purgatory after death, unable to go up to Heaven or descend down to Hell. The angel, Gabriel, has stolen The Grim Reaper's key of the Gatherer's Keep, the entrance to both Heaven and Hell. He is determined to fight his way through the souls in purgatory and the Demons and Angels in Heaven and in Hell to regain what is rightfully his and restore order.

Hrm, running Linux here and it crashes out upon launch with
"ERROR: Error: file pak000.pk4/script/map_recycling1.script, line 464: Exceeded global memory size (196608 bytes)"
Anyone have any ideas?
I am going to have to do my homework for that one. This error is coming from one of the stock Doom 3 files, not a part of Grimm so it's a weird error to diagnose. What it comes down to is that it's loading more script than it should. Do you have any other mods installed in the base directory of your doom 3 folder? Or perhaps you have customisations running in your base folder? e.g. Do you have other pk4 files in Doom3\base that are not supposed to be there?
You should have pak000.pk4..pak008.pk4 and game00.pk4..game03.pk4 in the folder, no other pk4 files. There also shouldn't be a 'script' directory in the base folder of Doom 3 (e.g. Doom3\base\script). If there is then you should remove it.
Let me know if any of that fixed the issue for you!
I've just hit this issue. Using a regular Sikkmod game lib, no extra pk4 files. Tried a few things but haven't figured it out.

I have a patch for this, which will be uploaded this weekend. If you PM me your emailadress I can mail it to you beforehand. It's a small file (just a couple of KB's).
I am glad the patch solved it. It will be uploaded and made available for any other users that might have the same issue.
Is there anything else required to get the advanced graphics features like HDR? Enabling them didn't appear to do anything, and the option reverts to disabled.
The SikkMod features had to be disabled for Grimm to work on other platforms than windows.
Hmm, rats. I compiled Sikkmod for Ubuntu x86-64 once. Some small issues (caused by compiler optimisation). I should do that again.
Will you be releasing the source for your mod?
It's included in the Win release, if you could compile Sikk for Ubuntu that would be great, I could then include it as patch! :)
I wasn't able to compile the Doom3 SDK. I can't downgrade my compiler and libraries enough.
Instead, I've just compiled Github.com, which is a fork of the GPL source. Has great stuff like support for x86_64.
I'm going to look at merging Sikkmod on it, but my C++ skills are weak so don't hold your breath :-)
I'll still hold it anyways. I'd love to get a fully functional (including sikk) featured release for Grimm! :)
