Remorse: The List

3 weeks ago News 6 comments

A few years after releasing our Half-Life 2 horror mod Grey, We are proud to announce our new indie game project for Unreal Engine 4. Remorse: The List is a semi-openworld horror game, where the player has to find out the origin of a weird list, and explore a mid-european town called Hidegpuszta. The list contains three different mysterious puzzles to solve.

For the time being we are working on the details of the town, for example shops; streets; flats and houses; and we are doing the finishing touches on our inventory system. The inventory is going to feature a note system as well, and every other detail which a real kickass horror game requires. The new Unreal Engine 4 was proved to be pretty perfect for our game, since it's a complete package full of goodies what a developer could use in the process. The map editor itself is a lot faster compared to the good old Source Engine, and especially good for the modelling stage and work flow.

Our whole development team consists of only two people, I'm doing all the graphical related work, and KeyToTruth is the programmer. At the current stage of the development, we really need someone who can animate, and of course has experience with Unreal Engine 4, to make the weapon and monster animations happen.

Have you guys downloaded the Steam Pipe fix version or did you get the mod elsewhere?

Well, Valve is doing to HL2 Mods what Google Plus is doing to YouTube. It's a shame they don't think of the modding community that HL2 has before updating the games engines.

Good work Valve, breaking awesome stuff, 1 update at a time.

Yeah, it's too bad. It seems they did *try* to keep some backwards compatibility but unfortunately the Steam Pipe update still broke quite a lot.

It has been fixed in the latest downloads you can find here on Moddb but not through the most 'optimized' methods.

It's good to know you were able to fix it, but what kind of "fix" was applied to increase the file's size to almost double of it's original size?

Nevermind, as long as it's fixed, I can't complain.

EP2 content is now included in the install since we were unable to get Grey to properly mount it anymore without crashes, missing content, or other issues since the Steam Pipe update.

Grey still requires EP2 though as it still attempts to mount it in the gameinfo file and will likely fail without it.

Hmm, I see. I was wondering if this works for Grey:

The devs noted that this can be applied to any mod, but I can't test it with Grey because I uninstalled it (stupid me xD)

Who knows? it might work, since it's for the SteamPipe update

I came across this gameinfo.txt posted in a few places when searching up Steam Pipe problems but it didn't seem to work in Grey's case.

Unfortunately it seems to no longer properly mount our DLL's when using this. I spent a bit of time messing around with the order it loads and mounts but I was unable to get it to work.

Mr.Grindor Nov 16 2013 replied:

Yeah, I found a torrent for Grey 1.1 before the update and I tested the gameinfo.txt file. It crashes while loading, showing a "model not precached" error. Oh well, nothing more to do.

You should really consider Grey going Steam Greenlight. It might save you from this kind of troubles in the future (if Valve ***** up HL2 and EP2 in the future).

When we put up a Greenlight page for our next project we will also look into getting Grey on to Steam as well if possible. :)

The good: Nice textures and art design Great weapon sounds Good programming Really liked the light puzzle at the end Fun to search for Anita's dolls (I think I found 7 or 8) Great voice acting for Grey's character Nice weapon animation and modelling (except for the animation on the stone-stick melee thing) The bad: Music was a little bad overall but some tracks were nice Melee weapons were useless Some monster sounds weren't too good Confusing map design Maps were WAY too dark (particularly the…

After waiting years for this project to get released, this mod didn't deliver. When I first began this game, I had a very unique and amazing experience. There are very few mods that sent me chills under my skin in the first ten minutes. It was just so different in comparison to many other projects. Despite how strong the introduction of the campaign was, I found the rest of the campaign to be dull and cliche. Gameplay: Instead of being a standard linear Horror FPS, the player is forced to go through…
