Guys, I found the perfect way to balance hunger/thirst.

When icons appear, it simply tells you that you need to eat something. Penalties will be as follow:

Blank Icons (transparent): HP-Stamina/MP-Stamina will drop to 3/4 maximum (you will only heal to 3/4 of your health)
Yellow Icons: HP-Stamina/MP-Stamina will drop to HALF
Red Icons: HP-Stamina/MP-Stamina will drop to 1/4

No sudden death due to starvation, but heavily changed gameplay.
I've also tweaked the timer so that you'll starve less, especially at first.

As for stamina, I'm changing the values to 2% of the max stamina per second (instead of flat 2 stamina per second), so that at higher levels you don't have to wait 20 seconds to do a swing. I'm probably changing the whole below zero stamina thing to an overlay change instead of dropping health. (aka it will change the way you fight without killing you).

sounds pretty good but im just wondering if the 1/4 reduction will be instant or over a short time and will you get that 1/4 back after eating

Instant (gradual would take a lot of scripting, and I like difficulty)

Take it as a Dark Souls' curse.

Edit: Tested both hunger/thirst and stamina, working really good. Removed a lot of strange penalties by wearing armor etc. Now stamina will drop by each swing for an amount equal to half the strength requirement of the weapon you're wielding.

perhaps before the blank icons appear there should be some earlier warning so you can eat before you actually lose health

Jun 6 2016 Anchor

No, because players would avoid the whole thing completely if some sort of warning is added prior to the actual penalty. In time youll learn to eat once in a while.

Good, that should balance thijgs out. Are you going to change sleep deprivation?

Jun 6 2016 Anchor

Some things, maybe. Havent seen people complaining about it

So....thirst + alchool is it going to be solved? Cause you can find more alcohol then water, milk and so on.Also not fair when someone drinks alcohol you get drunk.

Also makes the gameplay unbereable.I can stay away from a fight, but not being able to get to an Npc to talk to him in less than 1 minute real time it's kinda annoying.

just delete that hunger thirst thing, it is not a survival game.

Nah, I like it. Gives food purpose.

at least make an option to turn it off

I like the lowered HP mana and stamina when in starvation/thirst (could also decrease STR), but in addition to that you should die after a month without any food or after 3 days without water. I would give like 3 warnings every 12 game hours or so. That would most realistic imo.
