GoldenEye: Source is a total conversion modification of Half-Life 2. It is a fan made recreation, released for free, with only one goal in mind; to bring the memories and experiences from the original GoldenEye64 back to life using Source Technology. We want you to look at this mod and remember the first best multiplayer first-person shooter ever made. We are doing our best to bring in the opinions of the community to create a game that everyone is going to enjoy. But, we are not here to recreate the game exactly how it was in GE64, a lot of things have changed since they first designed that game, mainly in technology and gamers experiences. We are here to take the game even further but at the same time provide a lot of those fun elements that hardcore GE64 fans will enjoy. We've got experienced team members all across the board, from professional level, to amateurs looking to make it into the business working hard to make this dream a reality.
While many of the maps are pretty to look at, and are pretty faithful to the originals (with some welcome changes), everything else is hardly anything to write home about. I think a good way to put it is that nothing is *horrible.*
The view models and their animations aren't great. I'd go so far as to call some of them beginner work. The mine weapons in particular... okay, that one is horrible.
Gameplay is kinda bad, even by Goldeneye standards.
A really great effort, and impressive, though it probably wouldn't garner a mention if I rattled off my favorite mods.
This is a very enjoyable mod! The game is fluid and tons of fun to play! It feels like a good old fashioned deathmatch! And that is where the problem lies...
You see, for some reason this game did not remind me of the original Goldeneye. Sure, the weapons and locations were memorable but honestly it felt like a way too simple deathmatch! Maybe Goldeneye was just that, only I don't remember it that way...
This is everything I could have ever dreamed of! First off the source engine has to be one of the best looking engines I have ever seen and if you were to look at the difference's side by side of the n64 GE and the new GE:S you would think that this engine is just flat out perfect for it. I have been playing Goldeneye since I was 3 and from all those years I still have it and still play it. Though in this I can't run as fast as I can in the n64 version, since the Turok control scheme doesn't exist with a pc :). I still very much love that the whole game is the exact same with a variety of new levels and modes that take a bit of getting use to. Goldeneye is NOT a spray and pray game. It's a game that takes aiming and skill of every aspect. It may take a bit to get use to the fact that you are not just vs'ing 3 players anymore but !16! and the modes as well. It is still the exact same just with more variety. It's also the only game where I'm happy through out the whole match and laughing making even more memories with people who aren't just in the same room with me anymore. No matter what game it is, either it be CoD, Time Splitters, The Cod Goldeneye or as I like to call it the GoD of Cod, or even Perfect Dark though I still love this one very very much. Goldeneye was first! and is what set Multiplayer FPS a long way! no other game can match it not even Quake (which I also Love!) or Counter strike or unreal. This game has a special place in Goldeneye Hearts even the None players who are just now experiencing it. It's from a time where Music took up the whole Cartridge and game-play actually mattered. Where all we had was 4 player split screen on a 36" Panasonic CRT Tube-TV (which actually isn't that bad to this day). This game is amazing and the people Reviving it are that more amazing and deserve so much from this game and needs to be more Known. I thank them everyday I play this. Thank you so much! I still feel sorry for those who haven't played GE yet such a shame
