GMDX is an award-winning large-scale modification for the 2000 PC classic Deus Ex. GMDX addresses the many flaws of the game, polishes it to a very high standard, and adds new layers of depth that one would have hoped to see in a sequel. GMDX is executed with the strict parameter of staying true to the original design principles that define Deus Ex, and seeks to improve all aspects of design excluding the plot and soundtrack. The cumulative result thus far is said to be, and aims to be the "definitive Deus Ex experience".

How does the NPC not triggering laser alarms work? How do the lasers differentiate between a friendly and an intruder? I'm genuinely asking because I don't know how these sorts of alarms work and whether it's realistic or not.

Logic is kind of tossed aside for this one for the sake of not having to put up with CONSTANT Klaxon alarms all throughout Deus Ex. BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Drives me bonkers.
It's one of the good features from Invisible War & Human Revolution.
I don't believe there is any logical way in which a laser could differentiate friend or foe, perhaps if it also performs an x-ray scan of bone structure and checks for matches stored in a database or what have you.

Simple, inject the body with some kind of nanomachines that work from human heat. In other words - radioelectronic beacon with personal crypto-key. If laser grid detects personal emission then it prevents alarm if person within certain range. Still has some loopholes but plausible and somehow effective.

One could say that the friendly is carrying a device that is 'electrostatic-ally' linked to the person, like say static electricity. The device is attached close to a person's skin that allows for immediate contact with both the body and the device.

The laser beams will make contact with the body, which sends a signal to the body, and in turn, trigger the device. The device will send a return signal(wirelessly?) to the alarm system whether or not he/she is a friendly.

Since this is 2052 this would be more understandable of technology being "oblivious" in conjunction of technology today growing more flexible and compact.
