GMDX is an award-winning large-scale modification for the 2000 PC classic Deus Ex. GMDX addresses the many flaws of the game, polishes it to a very high standard, and adds new layers of depth that one would have hoped to see in a sequel. GMDX is executed with the strict parameter of staying true to the original design principles that define Deus Ex, and seeks to improve all aspects of design excluding the plot and soundtrack. The cumulative result thus far is said to be, and aims to be the "definitive Deus Ex experience".

Report RSS GMDX Will Not Compromise Quality

Dubbed the "Definitive Deus Ex Experience" web-wide, GMDX is a one-of-a-kind all-encompassing modification of the classic video game Deus Ex, currently half a decade into rigorous development. Intended to be the best looking and playing version of Deus Ex available all the while remaining true to the original identity of the game, GMDX is the greatest thinking man's Shooter/Sneaker/RPG hybrid on another level. Prepare to be blown away by Deus Ex once more.

Apologies to those who may be getting impatient, but another week of testing is needed. It's not long, and it's all in the name of quality. The reasons for this are numerous: real life intervening, plain misjudged estimation of completion and some fairly recent feature creep, take these new AI features for example:

- New semi-elaborate AI post-combat searching sub-state: Enemies will search the area more elaborately, open nearby doors, check hide points, and potentially raise the alarm or throw flares. Some may also stay behind and wander the area when everyone has cleared off.
- NPCs now throw gas grenades into vents.
- NPCs now react to flares more elaborately.
- Cloak NPCs sometimes turn it on when seeking, if they think they saw you.
- AI now shoot through glass.
- NPCs no longer block bullets/projectiles/other NPCs/the player beyond half way through their dying animation.

...in addition to efforts by the community such as the ConEdit project (fixing all of the original game's conversation bugs), just a little more time is needed to ensure flawless polish.
Furthermore, GMDX's weapon moddeller that recently joined the team left due to personal reasons and a fair amount of work had to be scrapped/reverted to retain consistency. If you've played GMDX before and understand what has been accomplished, and what is to be further accomplished with version 9.0, you will know this is merely a minor setback.

JULY 8th, mark it on your calendar. Set an alarm. This will be the one.

If you just can't wait any longer, you can sign up for the latest beta build. Send an email to GMDXv8.0@gmail.com requesting beta access. You can never have enough testers.

'till the 8th

So what is the deal with the new weapon models? Reverting to the vanilla, a completely new artist, or the artist (now former) of the ones you posted so far allowed you to use them? Either way, can't wait to play this.

Only the Shotgun is being kept. And the animated flare. Unfortunately the rest had to be scrapped due to being in an unpolished/incomplete state.

A completely new artist would be great, but it's too late for version 9.0 now. I'm sure people will create add-ons and such for GMDX when it is released. One or more of such add-ons may be weapon packs.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Shame really, but then again, the visual aspect, at least for me, was never the main reason for playing.

July 8 what time?

Can't give a specific time. Moddb file uploads have an authorisation process where they check for viruses and such that can take a variable amount of time. Once done, they authorize it and it becomes available for all to download. But I'll try and estimate it for midday-afternoon GMT.

Just wanted to say thank for seeing this through. Been waiting for this since the original announcement and was worried the delays would kill the motivation. Glad to be wrong.

Disbanded after version 9. People can make their own forks and add-ons though.

How can I fork it?

And what are the limitations of forking? such as using the name GMDX or any assets etc? I ask because say if Square decided to sponsor my fork based off the work you've done.

Sad to hear about the weapon modeler, I hope other modders decide to finish what the modeler started. I mean look at Brutal Doom, the people loved the mod, so they decided to make slight and/or major changes to it as addons.

As for GMDX, test as much as you need.

Hope to see it when it releases!

Hey, sorry for not helping out much with testing towards the end.
I'm still excited that v9 will finally go public in just a week. The other testers, and now partially contributors, did really great work, i gotta say.

PS: Sweet page design.

If there is people available I'll do a weapon pack for this mod, but there will be needed people with the ability to program, integrate and port animated meshes to Deus Ex and texture...

So much for that enhanced artistic direction. Atleast some good things came out of it.

By the way will the sniper rifle be included in the mod files? Last I saw it was in a usable state,so someone tech savvy enough could retrieve it.

What are you talking about? the Enhanced Artistic Direction refers to everything; adding more visual detail to all aspects of the game, from level design to visual effects to lighting and so on, and it's very much present. The scale of GMDX is so huge that loss of 6 weapons and some animated pickups is really not much of an impact. Disappointing nonetheless but do try to keep up.

If you saw the beta of 9.0 in action you would not say things like this.

Enhanced artistic direction is not just those few weapon models, it's map changes (smart ones, no revisiony "moar stuff just because"), aug changes (now vision enhancement and scope are usable in hd res) and enviroment objects.

And honestly, everyone knows all weapons you'll ever need is your trusty crossbow, baton and maybe prod :D

I've replayed Deus Ex at least once a year since it's release, played all serious mods and conversions that are in existence... so I'm extremely excited by the upcoming update. You guys are doing an excellent job, GMDX 8.0 was the best version of Deus Ex I've ever played, and I'm pretty sure GMDX 9.0 will top even that. Your attention to detail is incredible, while respecting the original aspects, retaining consistency and adding value. Keep up the great work!
