I did not create this mod originally. It is uploaded here for archiving purposes. If by some miracle the original author can be contacted, I'd love to meet him. Also, he would have full control over what happens to this mod posting. Now onto the mod itself... Borderlands may be the 1st thing in our minds in the modern era of gaming, but back in 2003 I was graced with this amazing rpg/fps hybrid mod. The Awesome speed of quake combines with varied character classes, items, spells, and even different weapons and armor to create a truly amazing action rpg experience. Playable in cooperative or deathmatch modes, this provides an EXTREMELY satisfying role-playing-shooting experience. Character classes include: -Soldier (powerful weapons) -Technician (powerful armor) -Cleric (great healer) -Mage (bonus to spells and magic weapons) -Vampire (very unique character with unique abilities) Items and enemies have been completely overhauled to include everything a great action rpg needs.
It's covered in the summary, honestly. Just look up alternate executables for quake 2. Maybe even enhanced engines. Hopefully, Giex mod will work fine under those.
The Steam version of Quake 2 might have issues with mods. I've seen this with the Steam executables for various iD Software games. There are community-made alternative executables for just about every iD Software game.
Your saves should be fine if you change executables mid-way, but I can't speak for every community-made executable.
I found a link to Rich's quake 2 executable. Just scroll down to where it says " R1Q2 b7587" (as of this writing) and that download link should work fine. I downloaded it and successfully opened giex mod when I wrote this.
Many old-timer gamers know how to start mods in quake 2, but everyone deserves to know how. GIEX mod is no different and it has its own features to worry...
This is the full version with all the files. I swear I'm the only one who had this tucked away on a CD in my closet. I tested it the same day as this...
I have the GOG.com version and I can't get this running. :/ The mod seems to load, and when I try playing Single Player, I select difficulty and it says "Your userinfo is malformed. Please restart quake 2". If I try playing Multiplayer, it keeps loading forever. I am using YamagiQuake 2. Someone please help me.
Hello Giex fans!
I did some development on a VERY late version of the game. I have the original source code of the mod, as well as the code for my own fork. I believe the main developer also has a copy of this code, but I don't know if he merged it into the main fork. This had to have been sometime in 2008. If anyone needs a copy or is interested in hosting it, let me know. The original Aristocrats forum and Giex site have both long since vanished. :(
Hey mate is that the same as Github.com --- if so a compiled x86 windows dll would be fantastic
I hope so!
Hi,
I've got a problem.
Game version: 3.20 - Steam
I was able to start Giex only once [by your tut] - after succesful i've tried to start new game [at the next day] and now [uninstalled q2+giex] i was unable to start giex to work. Any Ideas how to managed it to work again?
Tried both combination.
Windows 7 64bit - run as admin don't help
Look up rich's quake 2 executable. Or other alternative quake 2 executables. The Steam version's quake 2 executable may be causing a problem. I always had mods work well with Rich's quake 2 .exe. Look up "R1Q2" or "Rich's quake 2". I guess I'll find a link to it and post another document here linking to it.
I've already found issue.
on Steam version u need not only set giex files in giex folder but also in Q2 directory somehow. O.o
For the love of nub-shiggurath please let this be enough to keep this mod alive.
