AD 2043 - Following the turn of the millennium, population density and industry have risen exponentially throughout the East, and by 2029, Asia has become the most powerful economic region on the planet. Home to the largest and most techno-logically advanced cities worldwide, Japan is at the centre of this prosperity, dominating the forefront of scientific research, trade and industry around the Pacific rim.
However, with these advances, along with greatly improved inter-national relations and social status comes the need for security. The Japan Maritime Self Defence Force, Public Security Bureau, and assorted freelance organisations have been protecting the various levels of cyber ware from crime. During the last decade, the intensity of these atrocities has been minimised, giving civilians and mega-corporations alike the safety that hasn't been seen for almost 40 years.
Recently, however, there have been many unusual and distressing attacks, inside and out of the network. Minor targets in particular have been focused on, and been described simply as preliminary terrorist strikes. Sections Six through Nine of the PSB were first to begin research, and discovered a worrying connection between the majority of incidents. The investigation, dubbed "Root Identity", is being kept out of the public eye, with operations on constant standby for all regiments involved.

Yeah, the mod is dead. Atleast it sounded like that last time I spoke to the guys... A couple of month's ago. So blargh.

The mod has been through some changes, after a comatose state it was revived by myself.
First notable difference is the change from ghostmod.com to rootidentity.com
We're also leaving out the "Ghost in the Shell" part to avoid getting sued.
The project is still alive and we have a testbuild running, the main objective for our crew right now is to get a Proof of Concept running to show everybody what we got.
If I don't remember wrong, this mod died a while ago because of several reasons. The forums are down and the site has been up and not updated for soon half a year or so....

The details of the mod are on the website, but to answer your questions:
We have an entirely new cast, so you will not be playing as Motoko, but a new character.
We're creating a new set of vehicles and weapons, so while there won't be Tachikomas or Fuchikomas, we're hoping to create an original spider-tank design that has the same purpose.
The mod will revolve around Section 9, but it will be set in an alternate reality (much like SAC is set 'outside' the events in the manga and movies). Its purpose will still be the same, though.
