The Germans only had HEAT rounds, not APCR.

Germans used a lot of APCR rounds within the whole War for nearly every Caliber avaible.

remember the 50mm KwK39/PaK38 L/60 Gun which was only effective against Russian T34's when using APCR Ammo PzGr.40 ;)

HEAT actually means High Explosive Anti Tank. When it hits a tank, a thin cone of metal (copper or tungsten) on the inside inverts so it is pointing towards the impact point. Then it pierces through the hull as a jet of molten metal and kills the crew on the inside. Tanks taken out by heat usually sustain very little damage.

P.S. Tungsten heat rounds were used by the Germans (mostly) but the allies used copper as tungsten was too costly and thought of as unnecessary. Tungsten does penetrate more however as it gets a lot hotter than the copper.

HEAT rounds are high-explosive rounds. They have less penetraiton value than the AP and APCR shells. Also a tip you can knockout a heavy tanks crew with HEAT shells
Glad if helped ;)
