Generations adds a strategic element to UT2k4's first person shooter style. Like Onslaught, it deals with territory control through a series of waypoints across the map. Unlike Onslaught, these nodes can only be captured by NPC troops, a small army of whom are directed by the players. Owning waypoints scores players resource points, which can be used to upgrade their choice of three tech trees. Troops can be directed and weapon upgrades purchased through the command menu HUD, bound to a key through the input control menu.
