Gekokujo is a mod for Mount and Blade Warband set in the Sengoku period of Japan. The name is a term often translated as "the low-ranked taking over from the high" and was chosen because it was a running theme during that era: Oda Nobunaga descended from a clan of deputies to the nominal governor of their province, but the Oda usurped them and toppled their neighbors; Toyotomi Hideyoshi began his career as a cook and sandal bearer and ended up the ruler of Japan; Tokugawa Ieyasu was an upstart who probably fabricated a claim of descent from the Minamoto clan--the only ones allowed to be granted the title of Shogun. As a player of Gekokujo, you will start from nothing and attempt to gain control of the entire country, making the title fitting.

Rated 10/10 for mods great concept and the fact that the modder is doing all this alone and still manages to release patches and full versions. Also rated 10/10 to further motivate my fellow modder colleague and to show my respect and liking for his work.

about the closest thing you can get to playing Shogun 2 Total War as one of the soldiers. This mod is a template for how all Mount and Blade Mods should be made, with attention to detail...!

Just awesome it's like playing Shogun Total War, but instead of being a spectator/general, you're just another warrior on the battlefield, also the atmosphere is really well done, it really makes you fit in the role of a samurai, it's your choice if you want to become a wanderer justicier, a faithful servant or a great daimyo, this is definitely one of the best mods I've ever played in M&B Warband.

I feel as if Gekokujo is easily one of the best mods to come from the Moddb modding community for Mount and Blade in years. The immense attention to detail, focus on historical accuracy, and focus on immersion make the mod amazing.

On a graphical and visual standpoint, the mod is gorgeous for Mount & Blade with high-quality textures and meshes with only ocassional clipping for certain overcoats with certain combinations of armor.

The clever referances to Japanese history and mythology are absolutely hilarious and witty such as Kojirou and Musashi.

The changes to battle scenes, landscapes, castle scenes, et cetera are amazing and are very true to their counterparts in reality truly wonderful.

The reworked animations to follow Japanese combative styles is appreciated and really adds strongly to the aspect of immersion the mod currently has.

The mod offers a fairly bug-free experience with only a few issues requiring immediate attention and others requiring eventual attention (Army morale constantly dropping despite there being no penalties in place against you such as using units from enemy clans, lack of food/food variety, over population, lack of leadership/charisma, et cetera) and a lesser bug that makes it so heraldic sashimono do not display their mons properly (Occassionally, not a consistent bug.)

The Soundtrack could use a bit of work, better tunes - I tend to just mute music and listen to Shogun 2's OST (Much like with Calradia: Imperial Age where I listen to Turkish music when I play as the Sultanate.) so this is not a complaint what-so-ever, but a mere recommendation.

My main complaint is that this team has yet to band together with other modders to produce a mod based on the Boushin War (Ehhhhhh... *nudge,nudge.*).

The immersion is real and never fails, from the music to the scenes, the companions backgrounds and historically accurate clan names, everything is set for the ultimate samurai experience. The historic background makes the game even more enjoyable after a bit of wiki search on the time period and how Japanese society was back then. Since the strange armor set, i've always dreamed about this, you guys made it come true. I can never thank you enough for this:D!

There's not really any other mods quite like it that are this good. This deserves a 10/10 because of the work put into this mod.

Also I would like to thank the mod creator for making and putting out this mod to the masses. You're great <3
