Gekokujo is a mod for Mount and Blade Warband set in the Sengoku period of Japan. The name is a term often translated as "the low-ranked taking over from the high" and was chosen because it was a running theme during that era: Oda Nobunaga descended from a clan of deputies to the nominal governor of their province, but the Oda usurped them and toppled their neighbors; Toyotomi Hideyoshi began his career as a cook and sandal bearer and ended up the ruler of Japan; Tokugawa Ieyasu was an upstart who probably fabricated a claim of descent from the Minamoto clan--the only ones allowed to be granted the title of Shogun. As a player of Gekokujo, you will start from nothing and attempt to gain control of the entire country, making the title fitting.

It is the best Medieval Japan game after Shogun Total War series. Just Amazing Work. It includes a number of mods like the Freelancer and the Diplomacy mod that really help you play as a simple sword for hire or a feudal Lord or Daimyo! It's a must have for those who like Japanese history.

A fantastic mod with excellent attention to detail. The campaign has a high rate of replayability; "how will I start out this time?" "where shall I head to first" - the map is huge and there is such a wide variety of units that a play through will never be the same twice.

Not only is playing the mod a great experience, it's 100% moddable (a moddable mod!) with the release of the source code and it's assets being open source. Kudos to Phlpp for allowing the community to make use of his hard work!

Warring States era of Japan (Sengoku Jidai) is one of the most underrated settings for any war games, this mod does justice to it.
The entire mod feels like a whole new game, reminds me a lot of Total War: Shogun 2, the mod itself is historically accurate (correct me if I'm wrong) taking place before Oda Nobunaga's demise, the Imagawas have already been wiped out, thought it would be cool too see okehazama in this mod. But the mod also lacks the addition of Shinobi but i'm sure it will be added in future updates, overall if you love samurai and Japanese's history you'll love this mod!

This mod is full of love, you can feel it. Time to play it again.

My vote is 9.8 because there are big barren areas in the map and also too many bandits around the lairs sometimes

I don't really know what to say; The mod, of what I've seen so far, is so well made and polished that I can't believe I can't directly donate to the mod authors for the tremendous amount of work that went into this mod, because they truly deserve it.

I don't know if it had been asked before, but now I really wish to see an expansion to this mod, like the end of the Shogunate period and the resulting Boshin Wars that lead to the Meiji Restoration.
