Gateways_v1.1
Aug 17, 2007 Full Version 2 commentsThis is everything you need to play Gateways (assuming you have half life 2). Version 1.1 fixes a major flaw in the last level of version 1.0. (v1.0 had...
This is a single player Half Life 2 mod, set entirely outside of city 17. it features:
+6 levels of action, exploring a range of locations (from an underground facility to fighting alongside the combine on an alien world to floating color-coordinated cubes)
+Non-linear level progression- you start near a nexus of gateways, and may choose the order in which to progress through the levels
+A musical score (a total of 8 tracks)
+Some new abstract textures (see image 3)
+Challenging gameplay- this mod is meant for those who have already completed Half Life 2.
****For those with version 1.0, to get around the bug in the airboat-sequence, just noclip through the floor. (this is fixed in version 1.1) To noclip, open the console with ~ (or if its deactivated, go to options/keyboard/advanced to activate it) then type in "sv_cheats 1" and then in a separate line "noclip" (it should spit back at you "noclip on"). Type "noclip" again to deactivate noclipping.

EDIT:The website is down... sorry about that.
Hello anyone who cares, Kiwi Productions has a new website! Pretty soon
we are going to start releasing information regarding our next project.
There is a little bit of information regarding it on the new site, but
more will be posted here on moddb at some point. For those who want a
sequel to Gateways, understand that this is not a sequel, although it
has a similar style and design. That said, we believe it is much
improved, even in its currently early state. We'll make a bigger,
"official," not private, announcement later. Here is the website: Kiwiproductions.987mb.com

Did i have to restart to the beginning of the mod ?
Try noclipping through the floor and you should be able to continue through a small door beneath it. I guess the floor was supposed to crack but it didn't quite work out.
i got to a part which drops my airboat at the bottom of someplace. it has a few guards i killed. yet i don't seem to be able to go anywhere after that. did i miss a trigger?
as for the mod itself. i have enjoyed its somewhat different approach to sp mapping. when i 1st saw that big qube in that outdoor type room. i thought i was gonna be running around it like Prey. pity i would have enjoyed that. :)
Cons:
Endless waves of enemies instead of using improved AI like HL2:Episode 1.
Lack of puzzles leads to symptoms much like combat fatigue to the player.
Close to non existent story is unacceptable for single player mods.
No sense of accomplishment for completing the mod.
Any mod that uses the SDK base instead of HL2 or HL2:deathmatch is always an epic fail.
Bright white light is irritating to the eyes.
Disappointing gameplay.
Pros:
Good level design
Good Music.
Nice looking level textures.
Nice visuals.
Cons outweigh the pros here, I wouldn't play the mod more then once to be honest.

I'm going to release a fixed version tonight, sorry so much for the bug in the final level. I didn't realize it was there.
ok, i am compiling a fixed version of the final map. Thanks a lot to Forsete for pointing the bug out to me.
Forsete thanks for that tip. i've now completed it and the end was rough. :)
An interesting, innovative and fun mod, which is made with a lot of creativity. I liked it. Its definitely in my top 5 of singleplayer mods i played so far....or let's say..top 3 :D
Also a good soundtrack. Although i don't like rock or metal this didn't annoy me - i even liked it.
This is what modding is all about! Unique and innovative. Too many currently released mods are boring because they feel like some maps that VALVE decided to dump because they sucked. With this as a new standard we will possibly see others come up with new ideas instead of a bunch of reruns. While it is nice to fight new monsters or use new weapons, a completely new game play seneario is what really makes it fun and interesting. Those of us that enjoy the Single Player mods are starving for more releases like this! Good job too all on the team Gateways.
DJPOO try not talking out of your ass next time please.
