This is a single player Half Life 2 mod, set entirely outside of city 17. it features:

+6 levels of action, exploring a range of locations (from an underground facility to fighting alongside the combine on an alien world to floating color-coordinated cubes)

+Non-linear level progression- you start near a nexus of gateways, and may choose the order in which to progress through the levels

+A musical score (a total of 8 tracks)

+Some new abstract textures (see image 3)

+Challenging gameplay- this mod is meant for those who have already completed Half Life 2.

****For those with version 1.0, to get around the bug in the airboat-sequence, just noclip through the floor. (this is fixed in version 1.1) To noclip, open the console with ~ (or if its deactivated, go to options/keyboard/advanced to activate it) then type in "sv_cheats 1" and then in a separate line "noclip" (it should spit back at you "noclip on"). Type "noclip" again to deactivate noclipping.

EDIT:The website is down... sorry about that.
Hello anyone who cares, Kiwi Productions has a new website! Pretty soon
we are going to start releasing information regarding our next project.
There is a little bit of information regarding it on the new site, but
more will be posted here on moddb at some point. For those who want a
sequel to Gateways, understand that this is not a sequel, although it
has a similar style and design. That said, we believe it is much
improved, even in its currently early state. We'll make a bigger,
"official," not private, announcement later.   Here is the website: Kiwiproductions.987mb.com

Stopped playing after about 5 minutes - the mod is pretty horrible unfortunately. The levels are badly textured and created, and frankly look very unattractive. Sounds are all standard HL2 fare with very annoying looping piano/guitar music. Story was non-existant.

I was hoping for something similar to a more professional version of Mistake of Pythagoras... I was right, except for the 'of Pythagoras' part.

Don't download this mod unless you have a lot of time and bandwidth on your hands.

When I saw the pics and comments I thought, I'm going to download this mod because I want to play a good mod for HL2 again! And guess what... it really happend!

First of all you start in a maze and I really hadn't a clue about what this mod really wants to do, so I just finished the maze and there ya go. I reached a hall with 4 levelgateways (that's where the name is coming from) and 1 big gate that is still closed.

I picked some ammo on the builded statue and started with level 1. The mod let's me shoot on things and people, but wait... it's different and it's placed SOOOO good that I had the most fun in a shooting mod ever!! It's not only shooting, but I'm not going to tell too much about it.

About the soundtrack.. this one is really good. In fact, in combination with the very unique and funny leveldesign it reminds me a lot of the first Doom games and that's good!!! I putted my surroundsound loud and headbanged away on the superb and fitting music. Togheter with the great and unique levels, the music is a very important aspect of the mod. Imagine Doom 1 without music.. that Sucks ASS!

Are there flaws in the mod? Yeah, like the bug at the ending that you can't go further, but... this one is FIXED in version 1.1, so I played that and the end ROCKS... very fun! The FPS is not so good. This is because there are a lot of enemies, but also because the levels aren't optimized for the best possible framerates, but don't worry.. It plays good enough on a decent machine for HL2 (like a 7600GT gfx card)
Further I noticed that the music stops at a certain moment. It doesn't start all over again :(

Conclusion. If you want a decent mod with good creative levels build in it (+ custom textures) and want to laugh and get a smile on your face and don't want to waste your time... then download this mod! Put your speakers loud, start the mod and let's Rock! For me a great 8/10 ;)

This mod looks pretty sweet. As soon as I free up some space on my Steam partition I'll give it a go. :)

save files that are not in the last level should work in either version. The only change is the final level itself. If you want, you can always noclip to were you left off. Also, you scared me Darkcraft :P
