Galaxy of the Dead is a mod for Star Wars: Empire at War that adds a non-playable Undead faction to Galactic Conquest and adds some zombie-themed units to Land Skirmish mode. The mod is loosely based on the Star Wars novel Death Troopers.

Description

This mod is loosely based on the Star Wars novel, Death Troopers, by Joe Schreiber. It adds the Undead from the book and Star Wars Galaxies into the game as a non-playable faction in Galactic Conquest and adds a few new ground units to the existing factions. I'd like to thank Redtachi for allowing me to use his awesome Deathtrooper models. I'm sorry that this version of the mod has been so long in coming and that it is so much less than expected.

Have you ever played Galactic Conquest? EVER?

I've been over why they're not playable many times before, useless bashing like this is just pure ignorance.

@ Alenoguerol
Thanks again for the help! Hey, if I remember correctly you disappeared from the filefront forums before you could send me the infected barracks and improved blood you made. If you still have them, the barracks skin would be helpful. Oh... I just realized that the formatting on the readme here is totally off and it's impossible to read the credits >.< I better fix that... Ooh, did you take that screenshot while playing the mod? I'll add it to the mod's gallery if you don't mind.

@eawfocmaster
Yes, there are new zombie units and also new survival-horror themed units for the playable factions to help combat the zombies.

I read the read-me...don't think that this is dramatically "less than expected." You still did something, and it's a great piece of work. Keep it up!

Speaking of which, I feel this subconscious urge to whine about the ZC being unable to tech up in Gateways (yeah, I'm Sith of Steel on Filefront, so here I am, at it again!). I mean, just giving Thyferra and Hoth Black Market options would be a quick fix that would help a lot. Or at least help those of us who like to play around with the Consortium.

Other than that, curiously, why is "City of the Dead" only playable as the Empire?

because if you have even heard alittle bit of death troopers the infection starts with the empire also why would the rebellion or the consortium really care about courasant no idea if I spelled that right anyway and its the empires capitol so its their problem my point is it only makes sense

Already done. I'm glad you're back and that you could see the mod's release.

Thanks. I should probably try to avoid negative comments like that. I mainly said that because certain features that I had promised were not included, namely flying infected and a certain indigenous zombie skinpack.

Ah, sorry! That's another thing I forgot. I thought for sure I left more than two planets... That's something I'll have to patch eventually. Maybe first patch, if I get around to it?

The official reason is that City of the Dead is from the Empire's perspective and focuses on Coruscant. Unofficially, there was a strange error with the other factions...

And I just noticed that the Rebellion can't tech up either although that's a less significant problem (since they can be set to level 5). Other than that, I've had a lot of fun with this mod, great work!

@Pingu2212: First of all, that was completely redundant. "What is new in this mod that I can use in this mod?" Yo dawg, so I heard you like mods, so I put some mod in your mod so you can mod while you mod!

Anyway, there is plenty new. Otherwise it wouldn't be a mod. In Galactic Conquest, instead of fighting the other two factions for control, you'll be wresting planets from the arms of the Undead. That makes it a completely different experience and forces you to use different strategy.

In terms of units you can actually control, each faction gets at least one new unit to help combat the zombies. The Empire gets Hazmats which are weaker than Stormtroopers but are immune to weather effects and infection, as well as Necromancers that use the Dark Side of the force to create and control new zombies. The Rebels get three types of new infantry: Survivors, squads of four who are immune to the infection and heal each other, Veterans, four individual soldiers who have precision weapons and grenades, and Slayers, single bounty hunters who use long range weaponry and cloaking devices. The Zann Consortium gets a new hero unit and a Battle Droid company which acts like a weaker infantry unit but is immune to weather effects and infection.

Are you happy now?

Baby Rancors! lol (I know that you were doing the best you could given what you had, and the rancor model was a good choice, but I still think it's amusing to basically watch baby rancors run around and eat people =p)

In your Forces of Corruption directory, create a folder called 'Mods'. Extract the .rar file and put the 'Deathroopers' folder into 'Mods'. Leave 'Play Deathtroopers.bat' in the main directory. Run the batch file.

I hope this helps. I'm not very good at explaining these things. :/

I had no idea the game was even on Steam. I'll try to help you, but I don't have the Steam version so I can't give any guarantees that any of my suggestions will work. I'll continue to correspond with you by PM, and if we figure anything out I'll post it here so that other Steam users can play the mod.

@Pingu2212 Personaly i love mods that add non-playable factions, especially if the faction is tougher then mine. Makes the game more challenging, wich for me = more fun, so in my opinion its still a fine mod.

Well having more fully tested the mod, i can say its very well done, i have one complaint though, the zombies are too easy to beat. Perhaps you could make their ground structers give them zombie garrison forces?
Or give them some programing to utilize space stations or space forces?
Honestly, as soon as i get the death star as the empire, its game over.
And since the ai see them as a neutral faction and a secondary concern, they take forever conquering planets, so by the time they reach me im so powerful its not even a challenge.

for anyone having trouble with the steam version do the following.

1. Locate your steam/steamapps/common/star wars empire at war/corruption/mods
if you don't have a folder called mods create one.

2. Extract the DeathTroopers folder into steam/steamapps/common/star wars empire at war/corruption/mods folder.

3. Go to your steam library right click on Star Wars: Empire at War Gold and select properties, click on set launch options and type into the line
swfoc MODPATH=Mods/DeathTroopers, click the play button and when prompted select forces of corruption and then have fun so far I have not crashed
