This is one of the best mods I have ever played.It has strong atmosphere like "dear esther". The story telling elements and the struggle through the desolate city, finding an escape or path is brilliant. I never had the feeling before that I could just walk any direction in a map to find the proper way and even if it wasn´t clear all the time where to go I had the feeling that it was just natural to find the right way. Right now I´m in the middle(?) of the mod and haven´t played any mod without crosshair so I have some trouble but on the other hand it is more realistic that way. Maybe add ironsight then I won´t need crosshair at all.
Congratulations to this mod. If you have done this all by yourself you have my respect. BTW I´m a big asian fan and love the art work and the music clips very much. Great mod 10/10! Keep up the good work!
This is the best mod for Half Life 2 that i have ever played. The girl who made this should have gaming companies fighting over her. I played the Alpha version and it does need some fine tuning but all in all a very good Mod and very tricky puzzles. If not for the You Tube walk through i might have stopped playing but i got so addicted to this game that i had to keep on playing.
The mod is not so great, it is very, very open and the atmosphere is incredible. However it is hard to figure out where you should be going most of the time and objects will get in the way for you a lot. Trying to climb some obstacles or figure out how to get to the next area can be a real frustration and mood killer. Also combat isn't that enjoyable, (Personally I feel that Half Life 2 itself had some ok combat but ultimately just bland) sometimes I will be taking shots from someone who I have no idea where they are ultimately leading to some frustrating deaths. I don't think that this is worth the download because of all of it flaws, however it does have amazing atmosphere and I really like how big and open the world is, I just wish there was a little more direction in where it is you should be going.
The only flaw in this game is that there seems to be no instructions that would be necessary in certain parts. I wouldn't know to paddle across that toxic water on wooden board without jumping in dieing a few times and straight up guessing. However this game was a great experience and you should be praised for your efforts. Probably the best mapping I have seen in a source mod.
Horrible map designing spoils whole mod. Seems like amateur work, a hammer user who just thinks that looks is all.
Yes for post-apocalypse scene it fits perfectly, but there is just so many flaws ex. ( hard movement, get stuck every 20 seconds, no instructions where to go had to use noclip many many times)
I appreciate the effort that the developer has given to this mod, but the playability is still far below average for me.
You just cant mash up post apocalyptic scene whitout proper playtesting and put those here and there and make it really messy looking (what was made on purpouse) and then give NO directions at all to player. As map maker you just suppose that people can find those hidden ladders and paths that you need to take but it really isnt that simple. I missed many times couple ladders and had to engage noclip just to find the place and ladders that led to it.
Core gameplay is pretty basic. Didnt get the fireballs at all, they dont seem to have any purpouse on the game.
Again visuals vere great, some effects were little confusing ex. the fireball sprite that made so big cloud everytime u used it. The map desing just broke it for me. Didnt finish it played 6 maps.
+Nice action soundtrack
-Longer than every Half Life 2 mod combined... I almost gave up playing it
-Path can be confusing sometimes. The doors sometimes blend in with the door decals, some vents can only be broken with the guns, etc.
-Confusing Parkour (Speedrunners beware)
-Enemies can sometimes drain your health away if you're too far
Btw, on the end of the map on escape (you can see the map name in either the console or save file), type "map escape_2" into console to get to the next map, since the map load is glitched and will not load escape_2 when walking to the end of the map.
Brief Summary: A Truly underrated masterpiece, one of the most unique mods that deserves more attention, even with its flaws.
+ Excellent visuals and backgrounds, strangely reminiscent of Half-Life 2 Beta style and art design or Deus Ex's cyber-augmentation
+ Strong sound design and fitting musical accompaniment
+ Dark and very atmospheric story, satisfying from beginning to end
+ Very Impressive length: took +15 hours on Hard personally
+ Those weird dream-like sequences, very immersive and well done
+ Challenging Gameplay
+ Original steam-punk style weapons/enemies design
+ Plenty of "jump-skill" platforms and puzzles to spice up the shooting parts
+ Unique abilities are an excellent addition to the gameplay (Slow-Mo/Fire Spell/Telekinesis)
+/- Numerous bugs and glitches, but none are game-breaking
+/- The voice-acting is OK, but very hard to understand most of the time due to sound quality/background noises or ambient music, making it difficult to follow the story or know where or what to do on rare occasions
- Level orientation is the biggest flaw of this mod, it's extremely easy to get lost while trying to find your way out of an area, making you do platforming that you would except to normally use to glitch out of a map in any other game, but it's strangely the way to move to the next level here
- Below average Gameplay balance: challenge is a good thing in any game, unless it excepts the player to accomplish the impossible in unfair ways: aimbot-type laser turrets you need to avoid or destroy with unlimited range in outside areas to groups of mass enemies with 2-3 hit kill shotguns at medium range inside closed-space environments forces you to quicksave/quickload often. (Be aware this playthrough was done on Hard Difficulty)
- Weak Pathfinding AI with "Robot Enemies"
- Props/Decorations are oddly placed and will often block you or force you to maneuver awkwardly to get out
Personal Recommendations: It's hard for me to give G String a perfect rating for some of the problems mentionned above, if the gameplay was tweaked a little more and some tips/guidance was given on some hard to navigate levels and the AI improved, it would have been better in all aspects. The addition of optional dialog Sub-Titles would have helped greatly too.
Conclusion: A very solid and well deserved 9/10 for an underrated mod created (mostly) by a single person which dedicated 5 years of effort to give us a very lengthy, unique and atmospheric mod on the gorgeous Source Engine. You have my support and encouragements for the upcoming final version and don't let my 9/10 rating slow you down! Keep up the good work!
I really love the concept that has been put forward by this mod, while it's not entirely an original idea, the execution looks thoroughly enjoyable, with well created assets and intuitive gameplay. I hope to see this released :)
this mod is most likely to **** me off, I got stuck at the beginning, I wandered in the apartment for 20 minutes with no clue what to do(who the fxxk would have thought the key card is out side the window, I had to watch a walkthrough to know where it is.), this mod is completely lack of level design and very bad voice acting(I cant tell what are those people are saying most of the time), so yeah, I could have rate this 1/10.
i love this mod and it makes me feel very futuristic and fantastic. i played this mod 3 times and i loved it thanks and keep work on the Version 2 can't wait until it comes out.
