Why is it so hard to control?
For the sake of relevance, movement feels really clunky (the props only make it worse) and for some reason the mouse is too sensitive and i can't reduce it.
I ended up not playing it all that much, the clunky movement was a game breaker for me.
After getting used to the mods setting and gameplay very impressive.
Very good mod. I enjoyed playing it a lot.
The overall look of it is absolutely wonderful, and the fact that this entire mod is made by just one person is astonishing. BUT... the level design needs a lot more work as it gives the player little to no sense of direction and causes a lot of confusion.
G-String came out over a year ago, and I started playing right when it launched and it was one of the most infuriating mods I've ever played. It often hurts to play, your eyes strain, your head starts to hurt as you try and find a way through these brush-based maps with strange models that I never figured out were terrible or just okay. Alot of maps just say no to general game design about making it obvious where to go, and you find yourself doing trick jumps to see if thats where you're supposed to go.
But this says 9/10 for a reason. This game gets personal for those who've played it. Myo becomes this character you legitimately care about, leading her through these dangerous areas against awful odds because its the only way forward. The art style gives this oppressive feeling, this heavy atmosphere thats unparalleled in any game I could think of, it goes beyond a good setting, this world of metal and sorrow and plastic breathes despite the somewhat blocky mapping, but mod cant get above a 6/10 if the gameplay sucks, but G-String managed to surprise me here. This goes beyond just a nice setting and a good protagonist, this is interesting, oldschool and somehow unique and revolutionary gameplay. The combat is hl2 + a slowdown mechanic with fireballs (Now that sounds awesome but I forgot I had it for 90% of the game so whatever.) so the combat works. the enemy numbers and spawns and ranges all work, youll find yourself overwhelmed sometimes, and some really hard parts, but that spices the game up and its nice to have punishing areas spread out, as opposed to a whole game like that.
I have to say though, the crown on this game is the aforementioned mapping. These maps may not be super realistic (as I said before it's almost all brushes) but the atmosphere and textures and layout fit together so well, it transcends maps and turns into a world, its impossible to explain. You well get lost, you will be mad at maps, but it works because it fits perfectly.
This is a special mod, made by a special person. Superb mapping, challenging gameplay, fitting music, realized world with a unique atmosphere reminiscent of Akira, Bladerunner, Star Wars and it has some references to other sci-fi's like THX (buy more, be free),
Soylent Green (pollution), V for Vendetta (revolution storyline),
Deus Ex (cybernetic augmentation), Akira (special individuals awaken to psychic powers). Very long 10+ hours with a storyline that draws you not just for immersion but to think about humanity/morality and gives us the most epic finale I've ever seen in a game.
I can't give this justice enough, you'll just have to play it.
Its not without its issues, books have some weird physics and you get some jerky movement over debris & other objects, crouch speed is way to slow and the pyrokinesis doesn't seem to do anything (wish you could set people on fire). Some areas are nonsensical like having to jump down into crater ledge with no way up, crawl around into a bit of exposed pipe that you didn't know would be there that by miracle is not caved in... I wouldn't go there :/ No one would.
No crosshairs makes combat really awkward, anyone can look down the sights of a gun, thats the first thing you learn. The crosshair symbolizes this without restricting our vision to much. Some people complain about the black bars, personally I think it fits cutscenes and not so much the general gameplay.
I was waiting for this game. A game that lives it own life. Arrogant and haughty. Game without a particular purpose, plot or charismatic heroes. A self-contained game that plays into itself and only allows a watch you from the outside, but ready to kick you any moments when it wants to. You feel like a alien in the world of this game, but do not want to leave. It's suck you in. Sometimes it may seem that this game hates you, but this is misleading - this game just don`t care about you. This is definitely next level of a videogames. Pure phenomen.
This mod is rather... obscure. I found it hard to get into, although the setting was really good. I didn't like the fact that the game had a permanent cinematic widescreen view to it. It has a lot of potential if you work some more on it, I just didn't find it all that interesting.
This game is a revelation; it is the most amazingly complex environment to wander through and is quite a challenge on all levels. This version, (1.0) has an almost otherworldly electronic view of a decidedly rundown city, richly textured and festooned with graffiti and billboards. A capitalist vision turned nightmare!
You are lost in this city, but don’t worry, you are very wanted!
Massive vistas and climbing feats abound amid some very violent combat, where the lack of a crosshair makes combat hard, but not impossible. Even I have managed to get quite far!
This game has constantly delivered new and exciting imagery and sound with every new location, it’s simply amazing. In fact some of the environments are so detailed I have been forced to check the “YouTube” walkthroughs a couple of times to find an exit, when I realised I had already found it but another thing caught my eye and distracted me. I do like to wander and this is the game I have often dreamed of playing.
Now I will set about finishing it, although it has already been good enough to earn a very deserved 10/10 from me and I’m still less than halfway through!
I saw a robot with the Guy Fawkes mask from “V for Vendetta”. It was so surreal!
Well I have now finished this epic cyberpunk mod and I must say I takes me back to the day I first saw “Blade Runner” at the cinemas back in 1982. Then, as now with this mod, it blew me away with such new, interesting visuals and sound. Neon lights, rain and decay make for some magic moments in this mod. Yes I think this mod must be played, it is brilliant and thought provoking.
This is the longest but also one of the BEST mods for HL2 ever.
Certainly the most diverse and brilliant set of maps I have seen to date. Game play could use a little polishing but other than that this mod is pure brilliance.
