Freeworlds: Tides of War is a fan built Star Wars total conversion mod for Digital Anvil's Freelancer game that was released several years ago. When fans began to make mods for Freelancer, one of the many things people were keen on seeing was a Freelancer mod based on the Star Wars universe developed by George Lucas. Freeworlds and Tides of War were the answer to this outcry. The development team of both mods have now joined forces to create an epic new Star Wars TC, Freeworlds: Tides of War.

This is a news piece showcasing our new Mon Calamari Cruiser textures.

One of the things that has been a hot topic of the developers of FW:ToW has been the Mon Calamari Cruiser (MCC) textures. On the one hand, some felt the old MCC textures were not up to par with the other amazing models/textures we had in the mod. On the other hand, some felt that although they were not of great quality when compared to other ships in the mod, they were the most canonical in feel. Needless to say, when Arvis did his rework on the MCC textures some loved them while others felt that although they were of much better quality, they were missing the organic feel the MCC textures should have.

Fortunately, Overfiend, who has been busy at work creating tonnes of hitboxes, a new Bulk Cruiser model and his new Fondor Shipyards model has found a way to reconcile the differences between the opposing groups. He based a lot of his texture rework on these images:

MC 80s:

MC 90:

Using these as a base of his texture rework, he started to change the characteristics of the existing older textures to match the organic nature of the MCs designs using a series of Earth tones (blue, green, brown, grey). These images are the WIP of his labour!

I hope you enjoyed this latest news piece on our new MCC textures. I'd like to give a big thanks to EvilleJedi to the use of his amazing models/textures as well as Arvis Taljik for his new MCC textures. As always, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them below. I'm hoping the next news piece I write will contain our 11th Development Video showcasing all our new capitals and new visual, explosion and sound effects. So make sure you add our mod to the ones you're watching for updates!

Based on fan feedback Overfiend went back to work on the MC90 and MC40a textures. These are the fruits of his labour. As you can see, I believe we really have achieved the "organic" feel everyone was requesting!

Very nice to see the good old mon cals ingame. The mc 80 seems too big in front of the victory cruiser..

If you're referring to that other shot in the picture, it's a Class II Frigate or the Immobilizer 418. Both are half the size of the MC 80s

I talked about this one:

We can see an ISD or Victory aside the wingless mc80 and it is very small.

That's the Imperial Star Destroyer which is 100km away in that image. In the game, the ISD is bigger than the MC by quite a bit. Good eye, though! Hope this explains the visual size discrepancy.

Wow, fantastic. This is exactly what we were hoping for.

Speaking for myself (but probably for others) we didn't in any way want to malign or impugn the wonderful work you guys have been doing. On the other hand, our shared love for the franchise kind of compels us to give our input if we can, so long as there is some chance to (by our input) help to make this the star wars experience we have all been wishing for (in my case since 1977 lol). I hope the (hopefully constructive) comments about the old non-cannon but otherwise wonderful textures did not insult anyone as I don't believe that this was anyone's intention.

BTW, I am consistently floored by your team. It is the most organized mod team I have ever seen, the most excited, the most wildly talented and the most gracious. Reading blogs on your site particularly amazed me, not only as a window into your collective genius, but I also think it could serve as a sterling example to other modders of how to stay in touch with and inform the community during development. I don't think I could fit enough kudos into this post, so I'll leave it there. :)

Oh no worries, Dalmp. We really want the fans/followers of this mod to have input in what we're doing. Having numerous people comment on the MC textures really inspired us to do better with them and we have, I feel. We even redid the Home One and MC30c textures now to make them look more organic :)

Thanks again for the very very kind comments. It's really appreciated!
