Forgotten Hope Secret Weapon (FHSW) is an unofficial continuation of the famous Forgotten Hope (FH), a Battlefield 1942 modification. We say unofficial since FHSW is developed by FH fans, not the original FH creators. In 2007 it started as a small addon but since then it has grown to be one of the biggest mods of all time!

What makes this mod special is that it adds lots of - but not only - Secret Weapons which saw limited or no action at all during WW2 like jet fighters and super heavy tanks. Some of the maps feature "what-if" battles like a landing operation on the Japanese mainland or attacking a secret German base in the African desert.

Features

  • Over 650 different vehicles at land, sea and air featuring lots of Secret Weapons of WW2!
  • 130 maps, from tight infantry action over pure tank and plane combat maps to full scale naval battles. Or everything at once!
  • 150 hand weapons with new reload and moving animations for all (AT) rifles, bipods for MGs and (reworked) deployable weapons like mortars and heavy machine guns
  • 12 nations: Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Poland, Soviet Union and USA
  • Completely overhauled, more immersive sounds and effects
  • New techniques: switchable ammo, towable AT guns, altimeter for planes, napalm & cluster bombs, bayonets and much more
  • Heavily modified combat to enhance realism while not being overly complicated
  • Unique gameplay: Control the mysterious 1000-tonne tank "Ratte", use the Me 323 to transport tanks to the front line, fly Kamikaze missions against heavily armed Battleships or ... simply take a horse.

At the same time the Kawanishi H6K was going into service in 1938 the Navy ordered the development of a larger, longer-ranged patrol aircraft. The result was the H8K which was one of the best if not the best flying boat of World War II. It was in service from 1942 till the end of the War during which it earned deep respect among Allied aircrews. Unlike many other Japanese airplanes "Emily" could take quite a beating and its defensive armament was pretty impressive as well.

Available in FHSW will be the main variant H8K2 which had improved engines and armament. Possible bomb load configurations are

  • 2x 800 kg bomb
  • 8x 250 kg bomb
  • 16x 60 kg bomblet
  • 2x torpedo

So the Japanese airforce in FHSW finally receives a four-engined bomber with a high bombload that can close the gap to the B-17 a bit.

It's equipped with an Air to Surface Vessel (ASV) radar which means for FHSW you have the rare ability to detect ships and submarines from air. Besides the pilot five seats are available and each one has a 20 mm gun. Even late American fighters can get into trouble when attacking a fully crewed "Emily"! There's no defensive armament on the underside of the plane so it's the safest to attack from below.

Look forward to version 0.6 to fly this magnificent airplane!

Is this dead? Will there ever be a singleplayer?

No, the mod is still in active development, though development team is pretty small.
Singleplayer support is unlikely to be introduced, see my reasoning in comment below.

When can I play singleplayer?

FHSW doesn't have singleplayer support since the release of version 0.4 and in 0.5 all maps crash when you try to play them in Coop/SP.

The main reason for lacking singleplayer support is that the Japanese community, where the mod originated, is so big that they have a full server every day. There's simply no need for additional bots that would fill the empty slots. So they invest all their time and effort into further enhancing the mulitplayer experience rather than wasting it on AI coding. There are also a lot of things in this mod that are just not doable or require enormous work with the BF1942 AI like switchable ammo, maps with trenches, tunnels, buildings, ships or generally maps with a lot of obstacles.

So there's not much we can do about that, but you can help us reaching our goal to also have also a full server in Europe. You can do so by joining our forum and/or our server on the events.

If i install it, will it alter the FH mod so I can play with some of the modifications on singleplayer

Unfortunately, no, since FHSW is a pure multiplayer mod, so it will crash when you try to play it in singleplayer. But guys from Japan set up a cooperative server recently, though it's not online 24/7, but appears from time to time and all new vehicles were removed from maps, since they don't suppoty bots.

Guys, I'm suggesting you to add some more super-heavy tanks. I spent some time to investigate into theyr designs and concepts. Personaly I would love to see FCM-F1, TOG2, char 2c, O-I in this mod :) Please take a look into this comment !
