Report RSS Scaling the Cliffs of Normandy

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today we continue with our Normandy themed news updates, but before we show you our first DDay map, we would like to thank everyone for their great feedback on our 2.15 patch. We hope everyone enjoys the new maps and that 2.15 will keep you playing until Normandy is finished.

Any game about Normandy in World War 2, of course, has to have its share of D-day maps and Forgotten Hope 2 is no exception. The first of our maps, taking place on June 6th 1944, we are showing off today and portrays the battle of Pointe Du Hoc. This map features US Rangers versus the German Wehrmacht and was made by Beregil.

Just 7 kilometres west of Omaha Beach lies Pointe Du Hoc, a place where the cliffs of Normandy are steepest and tallest. As part of the German Atlantikwall, this location was selected for an observation bunker and 6 fortified 155mm howitzers sites. From this place, the Germans could provide accurate artillery fire on invasion beaches many kilometres away. Needless to say, for any invasion in Normandy, this point would have to be taken out.

The tough job of taking out Pointe du Hoc was assigned to the US Second Ranger Battalion. After three days of intense aerial bombardments and several hours of shore bombardment from the USS Texas, the rangers would move in with specialised equipment to scale the 30 metre tall cliffs. Rocket-propelled grappling hooks were fired from the landing craft, giving the Rangers a way up. Despite all the bombs dropped on Pointe du Hoc, many of the bunkers were still intact and the Rangers faced a harsh battle...

I remember when I went to Pointe du hoc, it was moving until I saw the McDonalds advertisement sign on the premises. That made me rage a bit.
