Vol'Talkes is a young proyect and it will need some of time for be finished but comparing it with other games where you can conquer a galaxy, it continues being a better option because all the other games will use a type of combat at 4x or turns very different to the good way from EAW, most of them with a bad behaviour from the Starships and most of others better do not tell about the space combat because they are more centered in the economy parameters than in combat.

Yes it is very similar to EAW, at the end, it is the same engine. Is it bad? for me it is very good because I and many more people, we have a lot of stuff made for EAW. Obviously, Vol'Talkes will support modding at the same level from EAW or more.

But today, I do not want compare it with EAW, specially because at least at a first moment, Vol'Talkes will not have a ground combat mode as at EAW. Only galactic map and space combat with a similar way of conquer planets as in the old Star Wars Rebellion (Supremacy at some countries).

By these reasons, probably Vol'Talkes must be compared with games as StarCraft II, Supreme Commander games or the next C&C, even we can compare it with the next Grey Goo, a new game from Petroglyph. At the end, all they are RTS and at least for me, RTS are very fun.

The developers promise publish information about the progress each two weeks at this.

Well. You can see some images from units and the game here. In Steam Greenlight, you will find a video but it is from the early stages of the game and clearly it has a lot of missing stuff.

Time for speak about the features:

-By default a Frigate can not down the shields from a Battle Cruiser. But you will be able upgrade the system from the Frigate as the weapons. There will be different upgrades for each starship.

-Cloaked starships can reinforce their shields and weapons.

-Because the IA tries retreat all times, I will make a special starship for destabilize the warp core. If not the battles will not be finished.

-Because there are only two abilities, some of the upgrades will be only for replace the abilities by others. By example, boarding parties.

These will be some of the new features.

When it be finished. I do not go to lie you with impossible dates but I can tell you that it will be finished on the 5% of time than other mods as by example the Vong mod.:)

Just watched the video and I like the good variety of federation voice overs. Did you make any progress on ideas for hero class ships? If not I could compile a list of suggestions that you might consider.

I will make up a list over the next few days. The klingons will be easiest faction to do out the three as they are more proned to record their hero's exploits.

Klingon Empire Heros

Major Heros

General Chang commanded a experimental bird of prey, Kronos One - K'tinga class or C7 command refit and a voDIieh (emperor)heavy battle cruiser. So quite a choice of ships. Class: Fleet commander

Chancellor Gorkon. Travelled on C9 class dreadnought during the klingon civil war. Class: Faction leader / diplomat.

Kors commanded the IKS Klothis( K'tinga class )and was also a governor. Class: Fleet commander / diplomat

Kang commanded a D7 battlecruiser. He was a skilled diplomat and fleet commander.

Koloth commanded the IKS Gr'Roth a D7 battlecruiser. Class : Fleet commander

Minor Heros

Commander Kruge ( B'rel class bird of prey ). He wanted to steal the genesis device. He could have a steal ability.

Commander Tolek ( Suk'valt strike wing ) part of the Black Fleet. Original command vessel was a Suvwi'Qeh class command cruiser. Class: Fleet commander.

Colonel Poktari. Class: Fleet commander.

Brigadier Kerla. Class: Fleet commander.

This is just some initial brain storming. I will look at the other factions over the next few days.

One of the many things I am going to like about this mod is the fact there are no super weapons. How will cloaking systems work in game? I know that the Romulans and Klingons will be able to use them whilst in battle. I was thinking of the tactical advantage of the cloaking system whilst in the galactic map. A cloaked fleet would be able to move around the map undetected. Only planets that have long ranged listening posts could detect them; it could work very similar to the bothan spy network. So for a player who uses cloaked fleets it would be a strategic objective to take out listening post before beginning any large invasion. Listening posts would need to be protected or you loose your early warning systems and a cloaked fleet could attack at will. It would add to the importance of holding certain systems. These are just some random early morning thoughts.

The cloak device is one feature only for tactical battles by one symple reason. One invisible can not start a tactical battle if it is not accompanied from normal units.

Probably you do not know but the ability for detect units on galactic map, it makes a lot of lag.

But Romulans and Federation have a special defense weapon.

I wasn't aware about the lag factor with detection ability on the galactic map. Well you learn something new every day. It will be interesting to see how the special defense weapons counter cloaked vessels.

Other point from cloak will be how the starships recharge shields when they use it.

I hadn't given then shield recharge any thought whilst cloaked, but it always proved to be useful option in Starfleet command and klingon academy.
