Final Fantasy Tactics: Rebirth (FFT: Rebirth) is a modification for Final Fantasy Tactics which features a rebalancing of almost everything in the game, in particular classes but also items, abilities, characters, random encounters, and storyline battles. The modification also features a few new graphics and a complete overhaul of the speed system. This mod caters to an audience already familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics - those who wish that some of the weaker classes were better balanced and want some new interesting and refreshing encounters.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! We have a small update for Final Fantasy Tactics Rebirth made possible with over the first 7 months of release. Here are the changes included:

  1. Queklain difficulty slightly decreased. He no longer has “Defense Up” instead he has “Counter.”
  2. Rafa’s skills now cost 16 MP rather than 8 MP. Here skills now do 10% less damage but have a 19% chance of inflicting the listed status effects from her tooltips.
  3. Malak’s skills should now do roughly 30% more damage. Additionally his skills also have a 19% of inflicting the listed status effects.
  4. Ramza’s chapter 4 sprite has been overhauled to fit more in line with the color palette of other characters.
  5. The Lunar Knight no longer has the skills Death Cold, Parasite, or Nightmare. Instead he now has access to Dark Holy.
  6. Various tooltip errors have been corrected.
  7. The PPF version has been updated.

Thanks for all the feedback and the first 1,593 downloads! You can find the updated files on the Nexus-Studios download page or the moddb download page.

Is this work for PSP war of the lion?

Unfortunately there is no support for the PSP version of FFT at this time. However I have given development files to another team that may attempt to bring rebirth over to the PSP version. You can find more information at this thread:

After fiddling around a bit with the FFTactics image and a few progs on the internet I've figured out how to get the new sprites to appear in battle. It's pretty simple:

1.) download FFTpatcher version 0.478 from

2.) make a backup of the original image in case this process doesn't turn out right for some reason.

2.) extract all the files in FFTPatcher_0.478.7z and extract 'em somewhere

3.) go the extraction dir and run ShishiSpriteEditor.exe

4.) go to file-> open ISO and select yer disc image of FFT

5.) If your image is like the one I have, you'll get a message saying that the ISO needs to be restructured. select yes

6.) let it restructure the image. when it's done do the ppf patching process

This might not work for all versions of the game; I only bothered to try it with the torrent file mentioned by rodman

Does that process to fix the sprites work with a .bin instead of ISO. I cant get the sprite editor to work on my .bin. And, I cannot find an actual ISO anywhere.

Cool, I just changed the sprite of the ninja job. But do you know how to replace the formation screen sprites? Because the instructions on ffhacktics are not clear for me. What programs needed, etc.

Hi Rodman49
I played FF Tactics again after I know there is this mod. It works great, but I have a problem. The new sprites show up in formation screen. However, when in battle, it's just the usual sprites. Am I doing anything wrong? Please help. Thanks in advance, great mod. :D

Actually the task isn't to replace sprites individually, although the shishi sprite editor (which is the only program you need besides the fft patcher) can do that--it's just that this stage wouldn't be the best time to do it because the goal at hand is to get rebirth working. To that end, all you want shishi to do is restructure the ISO so that the original game can be properly patched with rebirth via ppfomatic. So basically try this again. take a clean, unpatched tactics image and let shishi 'restructure it.' close shishi and then do the patching process in ppfomatic. for me, this made the palette changes visible both in formation and in battle. If you follow these instructions to a 't' and still find yourself having issues then I dunno what to do...

btw, how many kilobytes is your image after you restructure and patch it with rebirth? mine is 539,748 kb.

I believe your problem is encountered because of how you ripped your FF Tactics CD. Different programs rip files in slightly different manners. Did you try downloading the Tactics ISO provided from this link:

This is "standard" version that most mods work correctly on. If you need more help or detailed instructions please email

No, I didn't download it from there. Okay then, guess I'll download again from your link. However, is it possible to import my saved game from my current ISO to the one you provide me with? Thanks again.

Correct, you can still keep your save game. Just make sure you use a "Memory Card Save" rather than a "Save State." Hopefully the e-mail I sent you will clear things up.

I also am not seeing the new sprites in battle, although they do appear in the formation screen. Other than this minor annoyance in visual continuity everything seems a-o.k.!

Thank you for the information; unfortunately, fantasyanime's torrent only has one seeder and progress stopped at 99.7 percent :-/ Grrrrr. In the meantime I'm Dl'ing FFT from emuparadise and I'll report back on how the patch applies. Also, when/if the torrent finishes I'll seed it for a little bit!

Okie, the torrent finished and I am seeding it. That being said, the palette inconsistency between formation and battle sprites remains. This 'problem' was also present in the .img hosted at emuparadise. Every CD image that I've tried this mod on thus far has produced the same result. Besides this minor issue, though, everything else looks legit; the proper FFT Rebirth main menu screen is in place and the characters in the first orbonne monastery battle seem to have expanded abilities (enemy archers with charge+5, ally knights with hi-potion ability). Maybe they had these in the original game, though, as it has been a minute since i last played this gem.
