Post news Report RSS Fallout 4 and Update on V11

Unless you've been living in a vault, you've heard about Fallout 4. I'll cover some of the most common questions I've been getting in this article.

Posted by on

First off, can I just say that trying not to get hyped about Fallout 4 is like trying not to get addicted to meth. Willpower alone doesn't seem to be cutting it. Anyhow, as excited as I am, it's quite possible it won't live up to my rose tinted memories of Fallout 3. Hopefully with some modding, it can come close.

Yes, what I just said in that long ramble is that there WILL be a Fallout 4 Reborn mod. The when is of course dependent on when Bethesda releases the mod tools, how long it takes me to learn them, how much free time I have, and the biggest one: how much I feel needs to be changed.

What can you expect from F4R? Realism is a pretty obvious one, my focus will be on limiting and eliminating HUD elements, tweaking weapons and physics to emulate real life as much as possible, and an in-depth wounding, suppression, and combat system are all goals of mine. A food system is an obvious one as well, although it's quite likely a "Hardcore" mode similar to Vegas will be present. Things like fast travel and VATS will probably be either removed or balanced to make them more fair (Less AP for VATS, fast travel costing Caps are two potential ideas). Of course, speculating on features is pretty pointless at this point in the game.

What I want to know from the fans of Fallout 3 Reborn is the direction you want this mod to go in. Did people prefer the "canon" variant of Reborn, or the one where I sacrificed some of the retro-futuristic style to bring the weapons and world more in line with reality? Please comment below, and I'll gauge off the reaction in the comments which way was preferred so I can create F4R off of that. As much as I loved roaming the deserts of the wastes with an AK-47 and half a clip of 7.62, I can see the appeal of staying true to the Fallout story, you guys decide for me which it is!

For anyone wondering on the state of Vegas Reborn V2 or Fallout 3 Reborn V11, they're both on hold for now. It's unlikely I'll go back to them, but obviously I'm gonna hold on to the work I have done, in case I get the time and desire to go back to them at some point. I am working on a mod that is a combination of both mods above, and some new stuff, but it's a very early WIP, and I won't speak more of it at this point.

Keep fighting the good fight,

Adam

I'm all for realism, meaning bringing the Fallout Universe as close to real life as possible. Real life weapons, uniforms, "names of factions", removing power armors and fantasy weapons and such. I've enjoyed Fallout 3 100% more with your mod. I wish you did the same for Vegas but as you didn't like the game, no one could force you to do it. Lets hope you like Fallout 4 :P.

The only fantasy/futuristic mod i'd play in Fallout 4 would be set in Warhammer 40k universe, otherwise i'd go with your mod all the way.

Glad you enjoyed Reborn for Fallout 3, and thanks for the input on the real-life weapons!

I'll buy Fallout 4 when you finish your mod for it. Fallout 3 was 10x better with this mod.

Thanks man, any input on whether you prefer realistic weapons or the original canon ones?

I prefer realism in every feature. I like to imagine myself in the game trying to survive, and the realism helps create more immersion.

I don't understand how anyone can be hyped by Fallout 4? It's probably going to be as ****** as Fallout 3.

Kinda odd how you're commenting on a mod for Fallout 3 if you dislike it so much.

Hm. Considering how outnumbered by opinion I am, I find it almost pointless to answer. However, I personally like the retro-futuristic part intermixed into weapons like in your mod. Real weapons and then realistic energy weapons. That would make for the better mod in my opinion, and it's one of the reasons I don't really play with this mod much. I missed melting raiders' faces with plasma guns. ...Also how incompatible with pretty much every big mod this mod is, but that's to be expected.

But don't get me wrong, Fallout 3 Reborn will always have a loving spot in my heart because it was the very first Fallout 3 mod I ever used, first one I downloaded right when I bought the game. So do not misunderstand and think I dislike the mod, quite the contrary. It's also very extensive for a single mod, made by a single person makes it even moreso.

On the subject of FO3 Rebord however, I'm still curious about whether or not V11 is still going to come out, also, some of the cooler features you fancied doing in it, if they are not already in Fallout 4, will they be part of the base FO4 Reborn mod?

Thanks for reading the walls of text above. XD

You never know, things could turn around in your favor, and more people could post agreeing with you!

Quite likely it'll be your desired way for the first few releases (similar to FO3 Reborn), then later on I'll work on replacing the vanilla weapons. The first priority is of course gameplay.

As for compatibility, there's not much big mods like Reborn can do, when you're touching TENS of thousands of files in the GECK, it's quite unlikely it'll play well with a large mod such as FWE, especially when said mod does many things similar to Reborn. Big mods like MMM work to an extent, they aren't guaranteed to work by any shot, but they should in theory.

V11 is on hold, probably forever, but I have a spinoff of it that incorporates features and art from New Vegas. It's a whole new world, though. Currently, it's progressing slowly, but I hope to get time to work on it more soon.

No problem, thanks for posting ;)

I all for variety, here. When I first downloaded your awesome mod, I missed the laser and plasma guns. I eventually got over it, of course (the realism of the weapons you could use was excelently done).
In fallout games, laser and plasma guns are usually a tier above normal ballistic guns, it would be awesome if your mod addresed that issue at least, giving las and plasma weapons a vastly different feel than just being flashy normal guns (having plasma guns deal splash damage? something like that).
Speculating about features is, as you said, pointless now, but that's what I'd like to see.

That's a good idea, if I could find a way to differentiate them from conventional projectile weapons they'd be worth keeping.

Personally, in games I love coherence. I liked FO3 Reborn a lot, but the real world guns didn't quite mesh with the retro-futuristic environment, which broke immersion.

I expect adding new guns to FO4 will be a pain, especially trying to get them to work well with the new upgrade mechanics... So why not focus entirely on the survival experience at first? Take what the game has to offer and make it believable, hell I'd love that.

As the guy above me said it would be great if gun types weren't so tiered, but each offered different strengths and weaknesses. For example laser weapons could allow you to carry a lot of ammunition and have a higher chance to cripple limbs (I can imagine they would cause horrific burns) but overall deal less damage than projectile weapons. Might be okay to blast raiders, but perhaps not the best to stop a charging supermutant, which would force the player to adapt their strategy and diversify their arsenal.

More survival elements would also be great. It seems that in FO4 stimpacks are the way to go to heal yourself, but what about bandages, splints and whatnot? And the ability to craft these items? What about diseases that you could contract after a close encounter with the wildlife or a rusty nail board?

I like a lot of these ideas, especially a more complex healing system was something I always wanted in FO3 Reborn. I will for sure take the suggestions into account when it comes time to mod Fallout 4.
