models. Shall all the whiners create something better. CM has become a just-for-fun project again.
Imagine, a Hollywood producer got his hands on the game. The result would be similar to what the Cinematic Mod is: a graphics blockbuster, redesigned to the typical game to movie adaption with an orchestral soundtrack and beautiful people everywhere.
A graphical / music total conversion of the Half-Life 2 storyline. You need Half-Life 2 + EP1 + EP2 and a 64Bit windows system to play this modification. (Mac OSX supported soon)
PURPOSE (Version 10.42)
- Unified Engine; play the game (HL2 / EP1 / EP2) with the latest Orangebox engine / Advanced HDR / new shadow effects
- Enhance the old HL2 maps with HDR, blooming, color-correction, new props, dynamic shadows
- Eliminate the visible world-skybox transitions in the maps. Cinematic Mod maps are looking much bigger than they are.
- Eliminate all blurry / Lowres textures with new Highres textures and/or Hires-Detail-Overlays
- Give the HL2 trilogy a more stressed, darker and uncomfortable look
- Enhance the soundtrack with a semi-dynamic new hollywood-style music
- Add optional HD characters (mostly based on the ultra-detailed Poser Pro mechs)
- Add ironsight
- Add dynamic shadow simulation with the help of env_projected_textures
- Add more replay-value and a fresh new style
- ALL features are optional and selectable with an comfortable configuration-tool.

Fakefactory’s legendary Half-Life 2 graphical upgrade mod has been updated to the 12nd version this winter. If you guys haven’t heard of it, it’s called Cinematic mod, and started as a really simple texture pack for characters, just to train himself for modding…now, it has became a lot more.
The mod has totally changed the feel of the game to a more realistic / darker / „cinematic” level. Unfortunatly this was the whole reason, why some narrowminded half life fanboys have started to hate the mod. After a while the mod has become an „outlander” on moddb, and the development has gone private. Good news is, I have updated the moddb profile with the last two verrsions: 11.35 is the last stable version, however it is damn dark, i can’t see a thing sometimes. 12.21 is a lot more polished on the ligtning front, however it has some invisible walls sometimes, and you have to noclip through.
The mod doesn’t show up int he steam library anymore, it has its own launcher now. The launcher also inclueds a character pimper: you can choose among the custom skins for all the main characters, and it’s possible to play with the original Alyx. Some of the mod fans had a problem (such as myself) with the „pimped out” Alyx, since poor thing is a "bit" bulimic, and has so much makeup, that an avarage girl's head would not be able to handle the weight of it. This also goes for the female rebel characters unfortunatly.
But as I said, all characters are optional before anyone starts to hang himself. However theres another slighter disadvantage: the minimum config. If you want to enable all the incredibly sexy features, you also have to have at least 4gb of ram, and at least a powerful dual core processor. I played it with my little i3 processor, and had no lag while recording it in fraps 720p, so it’s not that terrible. This is my simple eat @ medve walkthrough of EP1 and EP2 (i will do a lets play with the pimped out HL2 with my extremely boring voice if i have the time).

The characters are beautiful. The mapping is gorgeous. The only quarry I have are the iron sights. Could use a more COD feeling. Other than that, absolutely brilliant.

This mod is HORRIBLE.It's basicly Half Life 2 with "better" graphics. The new NPC models are horrible and the weapons don't fit into Half Life 2 AT ALL. The mapping is okay, but still bad. This is a total failure. DO NOT GET IT.

FAKEFACTORY's models were great and the ***** who complained should of kept it to themselfs.. at least we can get it at the official website.
In terms of sheer graphical detail, yes they are great. But please understand that not everyone likes the artistic direction of some character models, and that you and all the other fans of the mod are not the only ones entitled to their opinions.

New CM Release! (10.90)
Hey guys anybody thats still interested in Cinematic mod 10.90! It was released today over at Cinematicmod.com , the link is down at the moment. but It will be back I'd say tomorrow. Spread the word! Highly appreciate Fakefactory for releaseing this considering the abuse haters where given him. Remember its optional and its his take on a brilliant story. I personally love this idea. Make sure you have Source SDKS downloaded and started as well as saves in HL2, EP1 and EP2. I recommend a download manager as well like Freedownloadmanager.org to make sure its not broken on completion.
It seems that the fileshare files are all broken and the rapidshare website has spyware or othe potentially unwanted programs. So either way I cant download the mod. I really want this mod but I dont know what to do.
Use the torrent file here that I uploaded. You don't have to download a million parts and it's fast.
Hey guys, I just tried to use the setup exe but it just says an error has occurred and the zip file could not be found. Any suggestions?
Wow reading all the comments now, i understand why you made it non-public, making mods should be fun... not like this. I hope that you finish your mod, and maybe someday in the future, i hope that you release it somewhere :) I will totally replay hl2 with this mod when it is finish :)

I think all those that are negative to this mod can go to hell, since its just a mod, not a upgrade for the hl2.
