FAHRENHEIT (Aka Indigo Prophecy) HD 1080p MOD

A total conversion mod for the game

Fahrenheit (Aka. Indigo Prophecy) is a cinematic adventure game developed by Quantic Dream in 2005. It features a large amount of motion captured animation as well as branching story lines, split screen cameras and an interface designed to be intuitive and realistic. Event triggers in the game are also mainly time-based, as opposed to the more common player-initiated progression found in most games.

If you don't have the game, you can get it at gog.com for $5.99 (4,66 € in Europe)
(It's the uncensored version, with extras and the complete soundtrack)

FEATURES

  • Almost all wall/ground textures are changed to better and bigger ones. 2K and 4K (2048x2048 // 4096x4096 pixels) textures are used for the big terrains.
  • New atmosphere. The game looks darker, sharper, dirtier and colder. IMPROVED
  • All FMV videos (the "making of" videos) are remastered for widescreen resolutions.
  • All characters look sharper and more detailed. I’ve made my best to make Carla, Tiffany and Sam look hotter and "cleaner"
  • All 2D HUDs, icons and characters are changed or improved. IMPROVED
  • All the textures I didn’t replace (the game has some nice textures that suit perfectly in the scenes and there’s no point in replacing them) are supersampled with filters and techniques. ALL textures are remastered.
  • New effects and filters. I’m working on new and better fullscreen-filters.
  • Customizable HDR effects: You can change between three main colour palletes for the game: Cold, Matrix Style, Warm. IMPROVED
  • (Optionally) I made some “Eye Mods”. You can change (if you want), the colour of the eyes of Carla, Tiffany and Sam at the start of the game.
  • (Optionally) You can change the size of the "Simon-like diagrams" for the action sequences. If you are good at the action sequences and that pair of icons just distracts you, you can make them smaller or even erase them (but in such case you'll need to cheat or something to pass the action sequences without knowing where to press)
  • (Optionally) I made a "Movie Mod", which deletes ALL 2D elements and HUDs in the game. This mod can be used in case you wanna record some gameplays or take screenshots without any element that disturbs you.

HISTORY

I’ve been playing and studying this game since its launch, it has a very interesting engine. Technically speaking it’s incredibly original and stable as well.
I tried to rip and modify the game data but it turned out impossible. I managed to hack the main executable (Fahrenheit.exe) and enter to the “debug tools menu” (a set of hidden tools that Quantic Dreams used to test, analyze and build the game data packages), but couldn’t make too much as it needed several developer files that don’t come with the public version of the game (and that sucks.. seriously, I was one step away to know how do those DAT files work...!)

The idea of making a mod of the game didn’t come out until I learned more about the engine. I studied how the game composes and renders every scene and finished discovering the key: Fahrenheit’s engine uses textures for almost everything! Only a few shaders are used (motion blur, zoom blur, HDR, glow, “invert colours effect" and fade in/out effect) and they’re no mandatory for make the game work or look good.
What really makes the game have it’s awesome atmospheres are the filters: a set of translucent textures than emulate advanced effects like screen noise effect (like the ones used in Silent Hill 2,3,4,Homecoming and so), custom colour palettes, reflection effects for mirrors (or water), “old movie” film effects, etc.

all

I began using TexMod, uMod and other software I made myself for modding the game textures. I made a 2hour film (just for fun and testing) with the scenes of a personal modded version of the game and the customization power was incredible

After some tests with HD textures in the game (and some ultra-high definition textures for big terrains and surfaces), in August I started working on this full HD mod.

SPECIAL THANKS

  • To all the people that upload his awesome free/public textures
  • To David Cage for his flawless directing on this awesome game (and on Omikron)
  • To ROTA, creator of the uMod and TexMod softwares.
  • To Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Crass and The Doors for helping me don’t fall asleep in those long working nights
  • To LuckyClover for helping me publishing this stuff
  • To MODDB and all its great comunity
  • To sergx12 for finding the correct hex strings to hack the aspect ratio of the game.

It's been two long and busy months. I've been searching for some work for paying the university studies and other stuff.
At this moment I can't guess when I'm going to have a busy week or not, but at least I've already finished doing the important stuff and I have some free time to continue working on the mod (maybe working on 20 or 30 textures every 2 days). I left the lastest tech demo almost finished, so I guess I should start with that and let you guys test it once and for all (yeah...).
The last week I hadn't got Internet and I couldn't continue working on the tech demo, (I needed new textures) so I took advantage and made a cinematic trailer for the game principally for showing the textures I've done for the Fate on Russian Hills chapter.
Keep in mind that the new cinematic trailer it's like a CGI concept demo, it's not taken from the game or even from a game engine, it's just a tradicional 3D animation made from scratch (using some models taken from the game and other ones made by myself). I'm pretty new on this 3D modelling stuff (I only made two 3D animations until now), so the quality of the trailer may not be very "professional", but by the other hand it was a challenging work animating the 3D models of the game; making the characters talk and editing the scenes. It took me all week to finish the trailer (mostly because processing the scenes was very demanding for my PC, even at only 360p), but I had a lot of fun making it. If anybody wants me to teach how to make a 3D animation using models from a game, just let me know and I'll make a small tutorial when I have time.

As you can see right now I recovered the Internet access again and I will be uploading new news soon arround here. Also, a friend of mine made a Youtube channel and upoaded all the videos of this website, so you can see them in higher resolution (don't know why but I can't upload 1080p videos on moddb).

See ya

Just watched the new video. The quality is truly excellent. Even though the game is already seven years old. With this mod, you might actually convince someone that the game is only a few years old. Or. You may even be able to convince them that it's a modern release. That's how good it looks.

Also, I have another question, or maybe it's a request?
I would like to know the full list of features this mod is going to have. Of course you already have such a list on the summary page, but there are certain points in the comments, that suggest that a more complete (or more recent) list of features would be nice. For instance in your answers to my earlier questions, you mentioned the improved widescreen support. What resolutions and aspect ratios are supported, is only the most common 16:10 aspect ratio supported?

A full list of features in the mods feature section, would serve to answer almost all of these types of questions. And it would also help those who are only browsing moddb.com, to get a clearer picture of what this mod is supposed to be and what it is capable of achieving.

sure, tomorrow i'll write the features.
there's still no official list of the supported resolutions. I've managed to work with 720p and 1080p already, but I won't work on the list until I get the mod done

David doesn't make as awesome as this anymore, seems like every new title he makes goes down the drain of B-movie sotrytelling.

WTF was the shooting part all about inside the rich man's house.

Really looking forward to this mod. I was actually about to replay Fahrenheit, but with this mod on it's way, I really couldn't bring myself to play it. Not when I know that if I'm patient and wait for just a few months, I can play a much better looking version of the best game ever made, with the best story ever told.

Also, I have a a few questions:
1. Using a hex edit, we have been able to play the game in any custom resolution. However, this "mod" is far from perfect. So, how have you improved/fixed the transition from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 16:9, or other widescreen resolution? For instance, the videos were always streched, and there were other problems with this (don't really remember what.)
2. Does the mod contain any options regarding the new visuals? Not sure if there is any need for such options, just thought I'd ask.

1.yep,it's perfected. 2D textures/HUDs are no longer streched (the FOV is still a problem and unfortunately there's no way to fix it)
videos are remastered and resized to widescreen resolutions
2.yes and no. there are only 3 or 4 shaders used in the whole game (motion blur, zoom blur, fade in/out effect, bloom... and maybe another that i'm forgetting) so there's no reason to add more.
actually the game graphics are heavily filter-based. all the scenes are full of screen filters and colour techniques (I guess quantic dreams made this system to make the game feel more like a film). I changed some filters to make the game have another atmosphere (darker, sharper and more "rusty and dirty"), but what really makes the game look better are the textures

that would be cool but they're impossible to modify (and even if I could I don't have the animation data of the characters, the specific dimensions of every model, the limits of the levels for optimize loading screens...)
