Exterminatus : Destruction of all life on a world by the Imperium of man. This mod is set in Games Workshop's, great Warhammer 40,000 ( 40k ) universe. Each map pits Imperial Space Marines against the Tyranid swarm, competing in a series of mission objectives, culminating in a battle to decide the fate of the planet.

February 2009 news update from the mod team working on the Warhammer 40,000 themed Half-life 2 multi-player mod Exterminatus. This month the Exterminatus code was moved to the Orange Box version of the Source SDK. Members of the community have been contributing music and models.

On a wave of encouragement from the community following last months news ChromeAngel has spent most of this February porting the Exterminatus (EX) code to the OrangeBox version of the Source SDK.  Most of this time was spent correcting bugs that the new code base had introduced, however EX is nearly back to the level of features we had on the older version of the Source engine now.  Due to networking issues with Steam we haven't yet been able to test and see if it really does fix the voice communications bug that originally had us switching engines.

We have had more than thew usual amount of goings on in the EX forum this month with bother Pun1$her & DiVINTY contributing possible theme music for EX.  We'd like to hear more from the community on this subject as these guys deserve more praise for their creative contributions.  Typheron has spliced together a movie showing some in-game EX action, backed by one of DiVINTY's latest musical creations.

The team would like to thank a new forum member MachineGoat for his contribution of completed column prop model and look forward to his quality work on more props in future.

With the unplanned for Orange Box port done we have reached a milestone 90 alpha test builds since EX started development.  Once the networking issues have been worked out we'll be giving a new full build to our private Beta test group.  The long awaited public release of EX is planned for the 100th build, which is starting to look close.  We are still short of polished maps, so if you're secretly squirreling away with the EX MDK please let us know.

There are no Tyrants in the game, its a Warrior being poorly piloted by myself.

Tyrants are for later, post V1 release

Looks nice. The only thing this mod lacks (i think) is level design it seems very flat and boring. Just my opinion though but maybe would be nicer with some custom textures and props.

We dont have ANY mappers at all, none, zero, ziltch, and thus the maps are hammered out by anyone in the team who can.

Its a skillgap no one has volenteered to help fix.

That sucks, big time. :/

What the maps need now is grimdark, and alot of it. Have you tried recruiting some mappers? Should be plenty willing to make som dark and brutal enviroments.

Yes, we have been trying to recruit mappers for over 2 years now to create some sutabily techno-gothic enviroments.

The few that have replied have not produced anything useable. Hopefully a v1 release will remedy this.

Looks really fun, models look great keep up the great work, I do agree with limagic though, the levels look slightly bland and exploitable from what I could see in the video. Other than that pure awesomeness =D

So would we have to buy the Orange box in order to play the mod? Or is there somewhere that we can download the SDK?

Typheron Feb 24 2009, 2:02pm says:

The SDK comes as standard with all source games, you should only need to own half life 2 as its basically an engine upgrade.

only issue may be textures, were looking into that one.

ChromeAngel Feb 25 2009, 2:40am replied:

We have deliberately not planned the future direction of Exterminatus beyond the first release, so as to focus on getting that done. Most likely though we'll be restoring features that were dropped during the initial development and expanding on the races we have. Adding more races would ultimately depend on getting contributions of content(sounds, player and weapon models) for those races.
