The Seven Hours War was humanity's downfall - our worst day, our final day.
In a few fleeting hours, thousands of machines, soldiers, and creatures poured onto our world from theirs through endless rifts in the night. Whole cities were swallowed, countless lives snuffed out. Against such a power, how can we hope to dream that any trace of our civilization will remain when the sun rises?
There will come a time when only one human being is left alive.
What if that time was now?
What if that human was you?

Just to let you all know what's going on: I'm moving away from mapping and towards modeling for the time being because I'm running into many symptoms of my map being too full. I'm exceeding vert buffers everywhere, turning on your flashlight will instantly crash the game (dynamically lit vert buffer overflow), waterindicies at 85+%, and the like.
So, the majority of my time now is going to be spent blocking out props in Hammer, then exporting them to XSI to build them up, then switching between XSI and Gimp (and Agave and Inkscape at points) to get a nice UV map from which I can build the diffuse, specular and normal maps. If you couldn't tell, I've settled into quite a nice Linux/Windows workflow across my two computers.
I've been experimenting with a self-shadowing bumpmap plugin I found on the Interloper's forums, too, and if I get to the point where I'm extremely satisfied with the results, I'll post up some screenshots.
Thanks to everyone who's decided to watch Everything Dies and all those who have left comments, be they here or on Interlopers - you guys make this whole process a lot more worthwhile.
Also (wow, I can hear the laughter already), Everything Dies now has it's own Facebook page. When I want to show off something, but don't consider it to be of ModDB quality, I'll post it there.
Go add it now! Inflate my ego!

woot keep it going dissonance !!!
im so curious where this is going man !!!
Are you going to implement maybe the Army attempting to fight back the combine? I like to see some tanks uslessly try to take down some huge combine creature then get totally obliterated...:P' Or helocopters trying to evacuate people. When you see powerful human weapondry getting taken out as if they are a minor annoyance, that'll kinda arouse the sense of how hopeless thier situation is. Id imagine stuff like a ton of people trying to evacuate by boat or something, then a huge combine creature comes out of the water and destroys the boat, or you see a bunch of evacuating helocopters in the distance get destroyed by a combine battleship (Or new creature.) the only thing that makes me sad is that theres a number of mods who want to make a prequel like this, and their mods will probably die due to lack of support. If any other mods like this were to simply join together, THEN we would get some major stuff done!
A military presence will definatly be included, I just haven't worked out the extent of it and how the player will interact with them. Too much of a focus on the military would take the plot too far from how I have envisioned it, but (as you suggested) no military would be very strange.
I've jotted some of your suggestions down and expanded on a few more; thanks for the comments!
Uh i mean XXXXXXXXX and the XXXXXXXXX wat is the XXXXXXXX supposed to mean?, there are just so many XXXXXXXXXXXX x's that i have a hard time followign the XXXXXXXXXX story XXXXXXX
The XXXXXXXXX are the military's way of censoring official material when they release it to the public.
Example: "We were informed of Agent XXXXXXXXX's arrival..."
It basically is used in this to censor a report, as to not spoil it for the people. Please read the other comments next time.
BTW, looking good. Hope you get it out soon.
Thanks. =D
He hasnt found a name (and i now i have spelling problems)
Oh, I have the name. I'm trying to keep it under wraps until I'm closer to release, seeing as how it's based off a real-world location.
alotta the story is kinda wrong, but ill play it cause it looks cool :)
Unfortunately, yeah, although I would say that the majority of the story is correct enough. It's pretty damned hard to get the Half-Life backstory straight, let alone write another tale within it.
