European Conflict Story

By the end of the year 2043, a second economic crisis was sweeping the globe. Ninety percent of the worlds oil reserves had dried up, and nations that had once profited from the refining, production, and transportation of "black gold" were in serious trouble. With war on the horizon, the Arab world went into self imposed isolation, with nations sealing off their borders and preparing to do battle with their neighbours. Of all the nations that had once benefited from the petrodollar, it was Russia that was hurt the most. As they had finally begun to return to the world stage, their own reserves had run out, and progress ground to a halt. After 2 more years and a pair of terrorist incidents that almost pushed the nation into revolution, they went into serious negotiations with their neighbours to the south, China. After six months of intensive negotiations, they came to an agreement, and the shaky peace was replaced by an allegiance forged in steel: the Red Alliance.

Almost ten years prior to this, the US, Canada, and a large number of South American countries signed a document forming the great American Confederacy. Those South American countries foolish enough to decline the offer were absorbed into the growing confederation by force or intimidation.

These policies upset NATO severely, and soon the once strong alliance splintered into two great world powers- the American Confederacy and the European sphere of influence. This group later split, with some groups moving towards the Red Alliances influence, but most of the west banding together to form the European Armada.

Two years after this drastic change in politics happened, an incident involving an American nuclear submarine, a billion dollar Armada ASW asset, and a huge amount of irradiated Atlantic Oean, the Phoenix treaty was drafted and signed. The treaty, pushed by what was left of the UN and backed by all three of the major powers, outlawed the production, transportation, and stockpiling of nuclear weapons. By the next year, almost ninety nine percent of the worlds nuclear stockpiles had been obliterated.

Inherently, with the nuclear option off the table, all three major powers began developing alternate weapons of mass destruction, most of them more chilling than their nuclear predecessors. During this time period, the "European Armada" officially declared its position as a real power, with many nations allying themselves into what is now known as the "Western European Alliance".

By the year 2050, even without the use of additional fossil fuels, global warming had accelerated at a dramatic pace. Most of the polar ice caps were gone, and all three major powers had their sites set on the North Pole- suspected of holding the worlds last big oil deposits. With each nation laying claim to their own little slice of the Arctic seabed, tensions ran hot in the polar regions, with brinksmanship being the name of the game for leaders during this time period.

In 2062, a top secret WEA research project came to fruition. A German scientist discovered a new flavour of the neutrino particle that could be captured by only slightly modified conventional solar cells, to increase their efficiency nearly a hundredfold. It was given the nickname "The Deutrino Particle", named for the scientist who discovered it and could be found in particular abundance in the north pole, due to differing atmospheric conditions in the region. Needless to say, with a new energy option on the table for the WEA, and complete independence in sight, they began looking at the northern territories rather greedily.

By 2075, spies inside the WEA had leaked word of the technology to both the American Confederacy and Red Alliance forces. The Red Alliance, hoping to expand, and needing far more power to do so, began incorporating much of the former Communist Bloc, along with huge areas of former Asian land. In a show to their two most populous members, China and India, the Red Alliance was renamed the United Asian Nations in 2076.

Although American spies had discovered almost all the details of the Deutrino panels, as they were now being called, their Eastern counterparts had not been as successful. So the UAN took a different approach to obtaining the technology. At 0300 hours, May 16th, UAN commando's entered a WEA facility near the magnetic pole, intent on capturing the technology and the scientists behind it. The raid failed, due to the surprise appearance of WEA airpower as the Commando's attempted to exfiltrate the facility.

Quietly, the WEA had been attempting to gain access to new AC reactor technology being developed at the Three Mile Island site. A raid was being planned when a spy was caught, red handed, with plans for the facility. The plot was unravelled rapidly by AC intelligence services, who realized the WEA's intent to steal their technology- but misinterpreted their intention, thinking the WEA wanted the technology to weaponize it, not enhance their power grid (to this day, its unknown why the WEA planned the raid). But it didn't matter. After this, the AC was committed to war. And when the UAN declared war on the WEA (claiming the air attack on their commando's was an act of war) it just gave the AC another excuse.

Factions

WEA (West European Alliance)
Uses new technology, powerful defences and late game upgrades

UAN (United Asian Nations)
Uses powerful infantry and artillery attacks to overwhelm his enemy

AC (American Confederacy)
Uses powerfull ground forces and rely on steamrolling tactics, but have weak defences

Specialized in powerfull armoured units and uses hover technology for his tanks

UAN Intelligence Division

Specialized in getting a strong economy and uses hacking tactics

AC Field Support Division
Specilized in long range weaponry and uses aircraft and artillery

Specialized in rapid strike assaults and uses high trained infantry

Western European Alliance Starchild

A fantastic feat of engineering ingenuity, the Starchild is the pride of the WEA's aeronautical division, and is capable of singlehandedly fighting off almost any foe. With recent advances in jet engine technology, the WEA has been able to nearly perfect a new take-off system for this aircraft, with minimal runway required in order to allow the plane to reach maximum velocity, thus minimising the targets for enemy artillery strike. The downside of this is that the extreme G-Force extorted on the pilots is near life-threatening, and thus only the most elite and athletic pilots are allowed to even touch the Starchild, let alone fly one. However, if successful, these pilots are given access to some of the most powerful technology in the hands of the WEA, with the Starchild sporting dual machineguns capable of shredding anything in the air, and two independent missile systems that are able to deal severe punishment to anything on the ground. These weapons can be further upgraded in the field, but these weapon-systems are strictly confidential until on the field of battle itself, and then, only at the highest state of emergency. This unique aircraft does come at a price, however, with the lightweight fuselage unable to take much damage and thus failing several high-level safety tests. Nonetheless, the Starchild has been swiftly deployed to far-reaching areas of the battle, in the hope that it's weapons will have run out of ammunition before the fuselage gives way, allowing the pilot to return safely before being turned into cannon fodder.

All new music pieces will be in the dev and will also find themselves homes in videos or such other things..
As to whether we will release them as a standalone package, I'm not sure yet.

There are a few mods that add navies to Zero hour, but the unit collision is dodgy to say the least!

There are several other nasty bugs as well. Such as they have to be built on land. Either that or you need properly pre-built maps which would use another method.

I was using naval units on Zero Hour Reborn v5 and whilst there were maps designed for them, they were still an absolute pain to use. Also, the game AI can't cope with them so unless you're against another human player they're all but useless

Yup, it'll be done when it's done I'm afraid. However, that doesn't mean in ten years time, we are progressing nicely and I wouldn't expect your wait to be that much longer :)
