Ignition-Point Entertainment has released Eternal Silence 3.6. Read about it here and then get ES on Steam!

Posted by AlfredG on May 7th, 2011

Eternal Silence, ModDB Top 100 of 2009 and 2007 IGF Winner: Best Multiplayer FPS Mod, is being developed by the up-and-coming independent development group Ignition-Point Entertainment!

In 2007 the original development group, Crankshaft Games, stopped development of Eternal Silence at release v3.3 and started development of Party of Sin. Since then the ES community has been building a team. Finally, three years later, the community team has formed into a development group and is creating hot new content for the game! Ignition-Point Entertainment has recently released Update 3.6, our biggest update yet!

Some of the features that have been added include 1) all new tutorials to help new players become accustomed to the complex physics of space, 2) never-before-seen maps featuring multiple capships and ground bases, and 3) a revamped sound theme. In addition, many tweaks to the gameplay, HUD, and ships have been made to make the entire space combat experience much more exciting and immersive!

Here's what our Project Leads have to say about the new additions:

Quote:Developing ES into new and unproven grounds is the best thing that could happen to this game and its concept in my opinion. It's clear that the team is determined to give the players the best, and we have been working harder than ever with incredible results. To me the most important change is the fact that the players are becoming focused and tactical secrets known to only the most proven players are being revealed. Truthfully I think this update is going to mark a new age for Eternal Silence.
~ Spindoctor, Sound Team Lead, Co-Project Lead

Quote:Our current Dev Team started off as players and became developers because we wanted to bring the great experience we have with this game to more gamers. With this update we want to reach out to the new players but also the loyal base we have.
I want to thank all the developers for their hard work, our beta testers for their valuable feedback and the community for their patience and support.
~ Kage Musha, Beta Team Lead, Co-Project Lead

There are several Eternal Silence Steam groups, one with more than 700 members. So if you take the initiative, and start messaging online members, i think you will have no problem getting a full server in no time.

Non-official quasi-changelog:
+Tutorials: explaining the very basics of the gameplay
+ADA: a new suit-voice (with some extra lines)
+(map) es_vertigo_a: NGM attacking an UTF-Tower located on an asteroid, bringing you some nice space-fight.
+(map) es_derelict: try to capture the neutral derelict capship to it's weapons systems agains your enemies.
+(ship) Pre-War UTF Fighter: a little gimmick in derelict ;-)
+(ship) Scout: Placed in es_ice, these neat little ships are capable of repairing the hull of friendly ships.
+Spectating: It is a mod with cinematic battles - so why not grab a popcorn bag and watch other people do the gaming?
+Clip-style reload: with a new ammo-display.
+Auto-join: automatically selects a team on server join - speeding things up a little.
+Auto-Spawn: to make life even easier.
+Quick Class Selection: select your class similar to radio commands (has to b assigned in the Controls-Menu)

Great idea! Actually we thought about arranging that at some point, but so far it's come down to nothing really. You're not the only one pointing this out, so I've started a thread on the forums: Drop by when you can!

And thanks for all the great feedback guys! We truly appreciate it! Hopefully a new update will be out next week with more improvements. I hope you'll like it :)
