No kidding! I had been waiting for this one...
I want to download but I dont have a fileplanet account, and cant get one. So please upload to another host.
We've already had a talk to the ES guys about this. Sadly you will have to wait 24hours before it is up on ModDB. We'll get it too you as soon as we can.

I actually don't mind fileplanet since I am in Australia and I don't tend to find queues at the times I download. I'd just like to see mods have as wide and distributed launch as possible and locking down exclusives will limit the number of initial players since some people may not be able to use certain sites for whatever reason. I'm sure people would say the same thing if ModDB went for exclusives too ;)
Just so you know, you only need a free account to download the game. You can sign up for free in 10 seconds or so, just with your name, email address, and some other basic information. Hope that helps.

I'm sure the game is great and all, I'm downloading right now but, why would your only host be FilePlanet? Not only must we wait 20+ minutes just to even start the download but we even get terrible speeds, those of us non-subscribers anyways. I don't think that many people want to play the game THAT badly, it's more like most of us have nothing better to do...
Because that's what fileplanet does. They go hunting for upcoming mods and secure exclusive releases usually offering something like free promotion in return. They benefit by getting a bunch of desperate rabid fans to sign up to get the mod earlier and don't really have to do anything beyond throwing the download on their front page.
My speeds were fine. 20 minute wait, and about a 40 minute download from what I remember. An hour download at max. So ~1 hour 20 minutes. I've downloaded quite a few files from Fileplanet in the last couple of days and they've each maxed my connection and come down as fast as they would anywhere else (if not faster) and I've only had to wait 20 minutes in queue.
Its not our only host. We just had a 24h exclusive hosting deal with them. New mirrors are coming up.
Shame. I really wanted to download this today, was looking forward to it immensely. I'll be waiting for the mirrors. I guess it doesn't harm ES in the end, as they've had a helluva lot of downloads, but I just disagree with forced signups and fake queues.

How bad is it for you guys? I waited 20 minutes and downloaded at the max for my 2mb connection.

It still severely limits their release capacity.
Also that number seems curiously inflated as it doesn't really correlate to the number of people playing the mod right now.
Yeah I realise more mirrors = better, but still, Fileplanet should be no real barrier to people who want to play the mod.
It's a barrier to me, and I do want to play the mod. Even banged on about it in the Modcast this week. I don't want to be forced into registering, bombarded with ads, and forced into a fake queue for up to an hour, only to get artificially capped download speeds.
I know what you're saying "I waited 20 minutes"... but principally, i'd rather wait 24 hours and get the whole thing in 20 minutes.
P.S. Not whining about ES devs, more about FilePlanet's "ways".

you're right..the mod team does deserve credit, however with their recent push for PR and getting the community going, they should have made sure that more than just fileplanet (which isn't the greatest choice at the best of times) is available as a download source.
But other than that, it IS a great mod, and wading through the frustration that is fileplanet is worth it.
Again, as mentioned, more mirrors are coming up in 4 hours. We had an exclusive 24h deal with IGN. But again, files are coming.
I think they uploaded it to more places. It's just that fileplanet has exclusive right for the first day.

Sure is fun. It takes a little getting used to, especially the space combat. Just incase anyone missed the little hint the first 20 times around (like me), F targets whatever is in your crosshair, makes the dogfights much more rewarding :)

I don't want to register to their forums to make this suggestion, so I hope someone reads it.
Please seperate out ship launching from the hanger proper.
1) Launch tubes. Doesn't need to be elaborate.

2) Have the fighters up near the celing with scaffolding to get to them.
Either would make landing with gunships less of a cluster and keep people from being TK'd by launching ships.

We've discussed launch tubes, and even tested a similar concept. however they didn't really do much, and then the problem of landing arises.

Downloaded and installed fine.
Great game in general, no problems with gameplay/concept but there a couple of in game experience comments I have.
I found that I had to lower the graphics settings which i use on TF2, CSS and DODS (from high to mid) to get rid of the low frame rate issues.
I have a 2MB Ram, 2.0Hz dual core laptop, with 256 ATi card.
This may be something to do with the servers not being setup as it was on launch day. But please look into minimising lag issues.
Another issue I have is the First Person combat lacks a realistic feel.
Unlike TF2, DODS and CSS I dont know when I register a hit on an enemy.
I only know when they are hit, when I see them fall to the ground.
Is there blood? or a sound to hear the hit?
When I am hit, how do I sense it?
I dont have a joystick and found that using the mouse to control the Aircraft not as responsive as other flight games. Any tips welcomed.
Settings and X and Y configs would be helpful?
I am using 'x' for roll and 'y' for pitch.
Another annoying thing I found is that somethings I spawn in the hanger and seconds later a Gunship leaves the hanger without me. Short of suicide I would like an option to join that ship.
Well there is a blood splatter when you hit an enemy, try and watch for it.
As for your X and Y configs,try creating your own private server and experimenting with the controls, sensitivity, and X Y configs. See what you enjoy and then try it out on a full server. The game was made to be primarily played with a mouse, so you shouldn't have too many difficulties. Keep in mind there is also a cut engines key which allows your ship to turn very quickly.
Gunships are forced to wait a few seconds before they take off, so chances are they have already waited for some people to get in. If you miss one, try escorting it to it's location, I'm sure they'll appreciate it.
Yes, blood indicator fpr hits, also the crosshair changes and you can hear a click sound for every hit.
Concerning your lag issues: That is not a server thing as must of the players don't have those problems. This must be related to your operating system or laptop.
Settings: You can configuration your options pretty easily. Check your config for that.
Gunship: You can spawn on a gunship. Once one is up, a big button on top of the spawn screen flashes.
Great mod , great fun and the flight element has the quality of a retail product.
As for the knowing if you hit something, isn't there a small blib sound?
yeah. you hear a click sound when you do damage to something. also the crosshair turns white
Hey this mod is awesome! Best experience I've had with a mod in quite a while. In my opinion, I think that the teamelement in the mod isn't implemented perfectly, it's like everyone are fighting their own war. For the next release, I hope to see some better integrity in the teams and more straight-forward objectives.

Well, bomb corvettes, capture subsystems, destroy enemy capital ship. It's rather hard to force people to do something even when you throw an objective in their face and tell them to do it, as many people would rather do their own thing and focus on combat. We'll see what we can do though.
