We're excited to announce that to date, Estranged: Act I has had over 167,000 unique players worldwide since its release in January. We are immensely proud of how Estranged has been received by fans all over the world, with masses of playthrough videos and feedback given to us on the forums and here on ModDB.

Today we'd like to officially confirm that Estranged: Act II is under development, and will be the next instalment in the Estranged series, continuing on from where Act I left off. As we promised in a forum post back in January, we can also confirm that Act II will be a paid-for title.

Join the Team

The Estranged development team is continually looking for volunteers to contribute to the next instalment in the Estranged series, Estranged: Act II. Do you have experience designing levels, creating 3D set pieces or designing characters? We're looking for volunteers to join the project at this exciting stage of development - we would love to see your existing portfolio work with any game engine on any platform.

If you are interested in joining the team, please email volunteer@iamestranged.com. Be sure to include existing examples of your work, and any projects you have worked on previously.

I wrote up a hands-on preview (basically a review of the Alpha build) of Estranged: Egamer.co.za

I really loved the mod, it has fantastic potential! =) It was also great for me to see that many of the flaws mentioned are already being worked on (zombie models, voice acting, puzzles) and I said as much in the write-up. I hope the feedback proves useful and encouraging!

Keep up the great work, I look forward to the new release and of course the full game :D

That's a great write-up, thanks for the kind words. We're working on the voice acting, hopefully it'll be better in the next release. Thanks for taking the time to write that, it was a good read. I hope you'll be able to play the next release too :)

When i reached the end of the sewage oh oops forgot to say the part with the chair and hostage and stuff great puzzle i thought you just titled around then i remember those old movies were they just either tilted and fell over or jump stood up and brought the chair with them (XD) anyways sewage end i thought i would jump off the pipe into the see (haha) and swim to land but im wasnt that stupid :D i analyzed my area to see if there was any cliff and there were. after traveling on the cliffs i start noticing metal matrials to help me cross stuff and im like ''wait, what?'' because this is a cliff not some iron mans house left overs from that movie trailer. then i find the explination for all that. ''SPOILER ALERT'' the secret base so after all that i get to the end i didnt like the end it was just getting juicy no offence the other parts were good to XD. GREAT GAME *i mean mod* (i also agree to some parts of Fujjins coment like the island!) also comment on this so i know you saw what i wrote!

Ok im playing it and the first thing i see that makes me want to slap it is the voice acting of the guy when you find that house. when you get the water and theres a zombie coming out he sounds like hes NOT scared. thats one of the things i dont like the, voice acting. but so good exept the part were you find a gernadeand have to put it in the slot that sorta is a bit to much i mean if you find a gernade you woudve probly blew up the door not throw in a permit slot. so far so good tho :D

Your trailer made me want to play it. I loved your trailer but i think i wouldve stuck with headcrab zombies tho (would have made it more weird i guess) but any way great trailer hope you make more and please make a horror mod please!

This is a very well done mod, especially for an alpha, there are a few things I think need to change, though. The puzzles, all of them, are way too simple. There's no real challenge to this mod. With every puzzle, you know were to go, and why. It's just, too simple really, there's much more that could be done considering all of the scenes that I have witnessed in this mod, there is a ton of creative potential here with these puzzles.

And, I also hope there will be more chapters then that, as so far the ending is really sudden, it kills the mood.
And, maybe, since this mod appears to be VERY professionally designed, especially for an alpha, the zombies could have custom AI in the future, and of course better models than the cartoony Half-Life 2 zombie models. As for the story, there is nothing to really complain about, it's sort of a stereotypical zombie story, except it's just confined to one island, which I think is a nice change, really, an island that the culperates are trying to cover up, in any way possible.

The voice acting, is not very good. But I never expect great voice acting in mods. Though, I have a feeling, this mod in the future will impress me again.

The soundtrack, is very nice, the atmosphere, very very nice.
All of that, and it's still an alpha, this mod deserves a perfect score.

Interesting, detailed, fun, great atmosphere, especially in the sewer sections (Which I wanted to be longer because they were awesome), good soundtrack, pretty polished for an alpha, very few bugs.
Just a few things I think would make it better.
The voice recording needs to be redone with a bit more emotion, also to me it sounded like the actors were trying to be quiet while recording, especially the guy who captures you in the sewer, the sewer level could have some enemies, because personally I felt there was potential for some really good tension, but it just never really came up.
I think it'd be awesome if you could lower the amount of ammo the player is given, but I guess that's kinda impractical with the number of times you have to shoot the zombies to kill them.
How ever, fantastic mod, I really enjoyed it and I can't wait for the next release!

We're working on the voice recording for the first scene, and the sewer capture scene is being re-written.

Ammo is going to be distributed on the basis of whether you need it or not in the next version with dynamic spawning, hopefully that should cater for all skill levels better.

This was an awesome mod. A few minor things like a crowbar on the ceiling, but i guess thats me not liking a slight challenge, i just spend like 20 mins chucking the rocks at the boards, enjoying the story so far and cant wait till a more complete story comes to light.

Keep up the good work and cant wait for the new weapons coming.

P.S. Im loving them Custom Barrels!
