Content Progress

Content is the single biggest task that we will undertake for Act II, and the team has been slowly building Act II out from where Act I left off. Our story begins after the fisherman falls through the rotten floor of an old wood shack, and picks up again where he lands in the rocks below the Arque West facility.

As a team, we have many commitments - some of us have jobs, some of us are studying towards final qualifications. Act I garnered no income, so Act II has always been and will always be a hobby project. A few people have asked us what is happening with Act II, and when it will be finished. In the future we hope to do a better job of communicating those ideas with the community, and we are still working hard on continuing where Act I left off.

Technical Progress

For Act II, we have decided to switch away from the Source Engine, towards Unreal Engine 4. Unreal Engine 4 provides a very flexible platform to author content for a range of platforms, and allows us to realise our plans for Act II. It is updated frequently, and has an active community monitored by its developers which provides technical assistance amongst other great things.

Content authoring for Source Engine wasn't easy, and it was difficult to author more advanced features for Act I without access to the engine code from Valve - which unfortunately for us is not something we can get access to as a free game.

We are always looking for people to join us - if you would like to make content with us and be part of the Estranged team, get in touch at volunteer@iamestranged.com

Check to see if Steam/sourcemods/Estranged exists. If it doesn't, you didn't install it to the right place!

"Estrangled". I think we missed our calling there ;)

If gameinfo.txt is missing, you need to re-install. There could be other files critical to the game missing too.

Reinstalled, replayed, still can't access Omnicorp computers without the dark grey error message filling up the screen and causing me to become stuck unless I load a save from the menu. I have no idea what Kisaraji is talking about.

Just played the beta of this, and man that was awesome! Once this is full finished I'm sure it will be incredible. And I hope to see this get Greenlit.
Only complain I have is the voice acting of the first guy you meet, the voice itself is good, but the acting seems a little lifeless.

P.S. Oh man, those moths were too realistic... lol

So after playing through the newly released beta, I very much enjoyed Act 1. There were next to no jump scares (something horror mods do all too often), the textures and models were nice, and the level design was pretty and fun. There were some minor issues that could use some touch-ups (AI getting stuck on the environment, hammer hit animation underwhelming) but otherwise a fun play. I'll definitely await excitedly the full release. Excellent work!

Speaking of Omnicorps computers, i'm kinda stuck on the office parts, once I get to the computer on the second floor above me, it asks for a secret answer that I have no ideia where to find.

This is great! I cannot wait for the next release. I little concern though. I click a computer screen in the Omnicorp facility and I get a dark grey error screen. Any idea what that is about?

You mean the developer's console? I didn't even have that on.

Could you check that in your sourcemods/estranged folder, there is an "html" folder, with a "mail" folder inside of it?

Regardless, it may work if you re-install it. Sorry you're having problems!

There is a html folder with a mail folder. All that's in there is some "mail" files, and pictures of cats. (?)

So I need to reinstall it? I suppose another run through won't be a problem to get back to where I am. Might give me a chance to do better against those zombies.

It sounds like the files (and cats ;) are there - would you be able to post the full path to your steam folder? I'm wondering if perhaps you have any special characters in the folder names or something - that might be tripping it up. If we can hone in on what's causing it I can fix it with a patch later this week!

That's great - so it looks like this might be a bug affecting *some* people with 64 bit machines with Steam installed to Program Files which is a bummer (caused by the " (x86)" in the path there). I will test and patch it later this week. Sorry about that :(

This was an awesome mod. A few minor things like a crowbar on the ceiling, but i guess thats me not liking a slight challenge, i just spend like 20 mins chucking the rocks at the boards, enjoying the story so far and cant wait till a more complete story comes to light.

Keep up the good work and cant wait for the new weapons coming.

P.S. Im loving them Custom Barrels!
