From far away the effects look quite nice, it's a shame that in order to get the particles closer together I have to put so much stress on the game engine.

It's funny how this game can handle high poly models but sadly can't handle good particle effects and projectiles...

Farseer did something like that with his missiles having trails. And his Banshee from his Halo mod had trails from it's engines. The game does slow down when there are hundreds of missiles onscreen.

All the missiles in the game use trails, including some other assorted projectiles like the Mandalorian Nukes. I've never seen fighter have them before, which is likely due to the issue you stated.

Alliance N1 starfighters engaging a Black Sun Interceptor Frigate.

Decided to do something I've yet to see in mods. The N1 had trails in the game Starfighter, so i tried to give it trails ingame. Unfortunately, the particle effects tend to look quite crappy from close up, so I trashed this idea for now. Vana Sage's Guardian Mantis still uses trails however, so it wont be completely unused.
