Some of the new sound for EpiQuake are drastically upgraded.. while others are completely in the same vein as the originals, but updated slightly to give them more of an edge. The Demon for example never really sounded large or vicious enough to me... so I made him sound far larger and much more evil. When the Demon lands or jumps next to you... you (and your neighbors) know it!
The shotgun sound has remained primarily true to the original... just much louder and in your face! The new version of the shotgun is comprised of recordings from a Benelli auto 12 gauge shotgun, a 20 gauge pump, and a 9mm luger handgun for the tail end.
I also wanted to take this time to reiterate that this mod is in no way a shot at Trent Reznor. I really dig the work he did for Quake and like the original sounds just fine. I'm not out to best Reznor and his sound work, just unleash my audio vision out to the world. The purpose of EpiQuake is to simply update the sounds while retaining the original sound vibe of the game. Is everyone going to dig the audio work done for EpiQuake? Of course not, and I don't expect them to, but hopefully at least a few of you find this new audio / music overhaul to be a cool addition to your Quake experience and something that maybe gives the game more of a fresh edge.
Still on target for a release next week!
