Sins of a Solar Empire is often described as a 4XRTS game, or a game that tried to merge the action and tactics packed gameplay of a Real time strategy game with the deep, complex, empire wide strategy of a 4X turn based game. It's up to debate whether Sins succeeded in this goal, but I think all can agree that of the 4Xs of "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate", Sins is much more focused on the exterminate than on the others. This mod seeks to give more depth to the other 3Xs of the game by adding additional game elements or refining the existing ones to reward players who give more strategic thought to the non-combat side of the game. Combat will still be the center point of the game, but players will find that the non-combat options available will be much more rewarding. Spying, exploring, sabotage, diplomacy, culture, and economic development have all been added or changed in innovative new ways. Regardless of what you think Sins is, this is the 4XRTS it should have been.

Recently I tried expanded research minimod as TEC loyalist,and found that not all research topics are expanded.Though most of them have doubled maxium level,even the one that fortifies civilian ship like trade ship and refinary ship,some topics are not,I'll list them below,and report any problem I meet when i try other factions.
superior repair bots,superior plantary shields,insurgency,improved destablization

Yes, there is a reason for all that. The minimod only doubles research that gives a "stat" bonus, I.e. Laser Damage increased by 5%. Superior Repair bots/Planetary shields could not be doubled because they improve ship/structure abilities, and abilities have a limit on how many times they can be improved while research does not. Insurgency and improved destabilization are special functions of sorts in the game and likewise they cannot be expanded any further.

In short, if the research interacts with anything that isn't a stat boost in the infocard, there is a could chance I cannot double it.

Curious that he trade ship armor tech worked though, I might have gone out of my way to fix that one since it wasn't very good to begin with. The way it worked in vanilla could not be doubled.

I report the problem because I think superior repair bots,superior plantary shields,insurgency,improved destablization are all similar with trade ship armor,and maybe they should be expanded too.Plus repair platform with 80 per sec repair rate and super-improved destablization stacked with neutron star are just awesome.
Now here comes what i find out just now

vassari:reintegration not doubled(possibly the same as superior repair bots),phase missile shied negation not doubled

vassari rebel:request allies doubled(in e4x mod),friendly jump telemetry doubled(quite interested in -200% phase jump antimatter cost when fully upgraded )

vassari loyalist:shipboard lab and imperial integration not doubled

advent:resource focus not doubled but enhanced focus doubled(possibly because the former one unlocks the ability and the second one is a stat bonus,but a bit confusing when compared with superior repair bots)

advent rebel:wail of the sacrificed doubled

plus i use e4x mod together with expanded research minimod

I'll look into a few of these, but again, some of them like Superior repair bots cannot be doubled because they tie into abilities that are already at or close to the limit of how much they can be expanded.

Also a few of those, like Vasari shipboard laps and Wail of the Sacraficed, were not doubled because they would probably be to overpowered if they were. :p

And yes, it is impossible to double ability unlock research, but if there is a separate improvement research it might be possible to double it, like resource focus (though its special in many ways). Same with reintegration.

I'll have to look at friendly jump telemetry. That one sounds like it should have been doubled.
