Sins of a Solar Empire is often described as a 4XRTS game, or a game that tried to merge the action and tactics packed gameplay of a Real time strategy game with the deep, complex, empire wide strategy of a 4X turn based game. It's up to debate whether Sins succeeded in this goal, but I think all can agree that of the 4Xs of "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate", Sins is much more focused on the exterminate than on the others. This mod seeks to give more depth to the other 3Xs of the game by adding additional game elements or refining the existing ones to reward players who give more strategic thought to the non-combat side of the game. Combat will still be the center point of the game, but players will find that the non-combat options available will be much more rewarding. Spying, exploring, sabotage, diplomacy, culture, and economic development have all been added or changed in innovative new ways. Regardless of what you think Sins is, this is the 4XRTS it should have been.

About 2 hours into the game and after majority of Rebel TEC trees are researched, the mod starts freezing for a period of 10 seconds at a time every minute.

How large is the game? I sometimes get the same thing in Vanilla Rebellion sometimes, usually its my processor maxing out. I did find a memory leak that will be gone in the next batch of fixes, but I don't think it is large enough to be the source of the problem (unless you have a lot of Kols). Sometimes exiting and restarting the game might also help.

I restarted the game a couple times but it kept happening. I was playing a medium scenario. It couldn't have been my processor since I've played larger games before with no problem. Maybe it was the memory leek, I'm playing a new game and no problems so far :)

Seems familiar. Had this several times in Vanilla Rebellion.Try playing with smaller fleets. I did that since the problem occurs and it helps a lot. (Beside this I discovered that playing with small fleets can be quite more fun than games with largest possible fleets.)

Yeah, one of the interesting things with Rebellion is that the processor seems to be a bigger limitation now that your RAM. The issue is with RAM its more about the number of different unique objects you have loaded, and it tends to cause crashes when it maxes out. The main thing you can do to help out if this is the cause of your problem is turning down your graphics settings. The processor cares more about the total number of objects it has to do calculations for, and it tends to cause freezing and lag when it can't devote any more capacity to Sins. Playing with smaller fleet sizes, maps and/or players seems to be the only settings I've found that can help with that. :(

That said, I'm hoping Major Stress will make a version of his Sins Optimization project for Rebellion, which will definitely be compatible with this mod if not included. In the next major patch (1.5), I'll be doing some major change to defenses, including a rework of mines that will greatly reduce their number, so that might help a little as well.
