Sins of a Solar Empire is often described as a 4XRTS game, or a game that tried to merge the action and tactics packed gameplay of a Real time strategy game with the deep, complex, empire wide strategy of a 4X turn based game. It's up to debate whether Sins succeeded in this goal, but I think all can agree that of the 4Xs of "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate", Sins is much more focused on the exterminate than on the others. This mod seeks to give more depth to the other 3Xs of the game by adding additional game elements or refining the existing ones to reward players who give more strategic thought to the non-combat side of the game. Combat will still be the center point of the game, but players will find that the non-combat options available will be much more rewarding. Spying, exploring, sabotage, diplomacy, culture, and economic development have all been added or changed in innovative new ways. Regardless of what you think Sins is, this is the 4XRTS it should have been.

Description

The Enhanced 4X Mod version 1.6 for Rebellion version 1.52. To install, download the file, extract it to your Mods-Rebellion v1.52 folder, and enable it from the mods tab in game. The checksum should be 30443665. You do not need to download the 1.601 hotfix if you downloaded the mod after July 10th, 2013.

Great to see the mod in SoaSE Modders but just be warned that there is a few with admin status that can now edit your mod. I highly doubt the few admins will though. Stress, psychoak, Zombies...

If by the release date you mean the fact the mod is listed as TBA, I did that on the advice of ZombiesRus so that they would not put it on Desura without my permission. :p

I thought you had to manually hit "Publish". SOA2 Reb and Trinity pages is not on Desura, only Dip and Josh said he published.

From what I recall when moddb re-organized our mods into the expansion groupings they also without authorization converted several to Desura. Maybe they aren't doing that anymore.

I believe this is the mod path, correct? Even for the Steam version? Because I couldn't find any mod folders in my common directory for the steam version :x

Yup. And the mod folder location is the same for everyone, we all have the steam version regardless of where we bought Rebellion. ;)

There are two mod folders. 1.1 and 1.6, I would imagine it's supposed to go into 1.6 correct?

1.6 is the version number of Enhanced 4X, the most recent version of Rebellion is 1.52. So if you have the most recent version of Rebellion you want to put it in "Mods-Rebellion v1.52".

I managed to get the version of the mod's folder and the version of the game's folder mixed up, but you did answer the question anyway so thank you. =)

I'd guessed that but wanted to be sure, and it's always useful info in case anyone else has the same question.

Just one question, do you intend on updating the original artifacts to the new values introduced in Rebellion version 1.5, or will they stay as they are currently?

Yeah, I made a note to do that but I forgot about it until I uploaded it. :p I may have to rework some of the artifacts anyways because there are probably some duplication with the new values and the new artifacts.

It seems to be working for me now. If anyone has any issues downloading, try manually selecting a different mirror. Gamefront in particular is known to have many issues for users in some countries.

I have two problems:
1 The game is periodically crashing with an runtime-error. This is only happening when the mod is active.

2 Some titans's textures are not showed; the titans then have the players color. Every time I start the game other titans then the time before have this problem.

I have the DLC and I am using the E4X main mod and the alternative music E4X minimod which is above the main mod in the hierarchy.

Both issues could be caused if Sins is running out of RAM. Trying reducing your graphics settings a bit, that's a good first thing to try if you're getting crashes for no apparent reason.

But... why I have a feeling that planets is a little bit smaller than version 1.5? Is it ... my illusion? :(
Larger planets may create a more epic feeling~ It will enhance the part of Exploration~

I don't know, I haven't touched any planet meshes since last time. I did realize none of the new default planet textures are being used, but that shouldn't affect planet size. :-/

Any random map except tiny has a chance to spawn it. It is pretty rare though, so if you get impatient you may want to use the in game map designer or the E4X galaxy forge to force it to spawn. ;)

I dont know if this is just a problem with my computer, but the game does not load the textures for stars outside the system. SO when I zoom out, I get white aquares where the stars should be

Squares? The infinite space planet mod included in this did change them to white circles. Not sure if that is what you're seeing.

This version is only for Rebellion 1.5 and later. You'll need to update your game or use the older E4X 1.5 download.

Hello I have noticed some bugs and i thought i would share them.

1. Trade Ports are showing a Red 8% trade income in the tooltip but i think it still gives you the bonus anyways.

2. Whenever i capture a random planet thats occupied by a neutral faction and has an invulnerable structure orbiting it, the structure auto destructs, even if ive already captured it, and then the game crashes.

Will post more as i find them, this is an awsome mod and great work!

Hey Qefucan,

1. What bonus do you mean? The red 8% is a slight reduction in trade income each trade port gives to try and prevent players from just spamming trade ports (Which is how you make money in vanilla).

2. You mean the construction ships try and deconstruct it? Do you have a save or screenshot, I double checked the code and it says they should not target invulnerable structures. :-/

1. Cool i understand no super money making.

2. No not the constructors, the building just dies for no apparent reason, kaboom explosion and debris and then crash. So far its done it on a Volcanic Planet with neutral TEC faction inhabiting it with a super phase array invul. structure and a ice planet with the same inhabitants with a power reactor invul. structure. I am attempting to recreate the circumstances and get a screenie for you.

Hi, since installing your mod (great btw) i get black screen crashes. eventually the screen gos black, and alt tabbing etc will not bring it back. this only happens with your mod enables.

my checksums do not match. also, if i change the order of the mods, the checksum changes?

im running forbidden worlds version 1.5.4775

checksum 4x mod 1.6 at top, then expanded research, then double fleet supply. checksum is 30703246

i crash on no otehr games, and it worked fine before mod.

any ideas?

Hi guest.

The checksum list is only for the Enhanced 4X mod without any minimods, applying minimods will change the checksum. Make sure the base mod works before applying any other mods.

And are you sure Rebellion 1.54 is your version number? I thought the latest version was 1.52?

And finally when using minimods, the main Enhanced 4X Mod (1.6) should be on the bottom, not the top of your mod order.

I'm a bit confused here: I just installed the new version of this, and the checksum seems a bit odd as it is 30281256 instead of the one you mentioned on the description. I tried installing it few times, both as overwrite and clean and both ways I can't get the correct checksum.

Yeah, I've gotten reports that some of the download mirrors (probably gamefront) still have the old version. :-/ I guess I'll make sure to not just update the download link anymore.

I have no internet where my computer is, i need to be able to download the Sins 1.5 patch on a thumbdrive, but i cannot find it anywhere. Anyone know where i can down load the patch manually.

Rebellion is a steamworks game, so I'm not sure you can patch Rebellion via a thumb drive. You'd have to ask on the steam forums/support.

It basically is combined with E4X already! All of the skybox, planet and star textures come from Infinite Space. Its not an exact merge because I changed the planet stats to be more unique, but that's the main difference.

Um, what exactly do you mean by backwards compatible? Generally mods only work for specific versions of Rebellion if that is what you mean, unless there was only a small update.
