Empires is a mod for Half-Life 2 which will combine the genres of real-time strategy and first person shooter. Each team has four classes to choose from (scout, rifleman, grenadier, and engineer) with unique weapons and skills each. One player will become the commander by entering the team's command vehicle to build the team's base and lead his team to victory. Once your base is built up, purchase vehicles from your team's vehicle factory to open up another facet of Empires' gameplay. Vehicles can be customized with unique weapons, armor, and engines. The commander can research improvements to all aspects of vehicles such as longer range cannons, homing missiles, and armor-piercing machine gun rounds. Once your team is prepared, lead an assault into the enemy base. The enemy team is defeated when all players are wiped out with either no place to respawn or no reinforcements remaining or the team's command vehicle is destroyed.

Report this article Empires 2.1 Update

Empires 2.1 is starting to come together and should be available shortly. The main focus of this patch is to fix crash issues that have been reported along with some other minor bugs. In addition to fixes, we're adding several new features. One of them is collapsible walls. When walls are destroyed or recycled, they will break into pieces and either crumble when destroyed by an engineer tool or explode with force when destroyed by an explosive projectile.

Empires 2.1 is starting to come together and should be available shortly. The main focus of this patch is to fix crash issues that have been reported along with some other minor bugs. In addition to fixes, we're adding several new features. One of them is collapsable walls. When walls are destroyed or recycled, they will break into pieces and either crumble when destroyed by an engineer tool or explode with force when destroyed by an explosive projectile. This is a preview of what all buildings and vehicles will have in the future. Infantry research will also find its way into this patch in the form of being able to research upgraded grenadier RPGs that will allow infantry to remain effective even when heavy tanks fill the battlefield. The patch will soon enter testing and then be released to the public.

Executor, wait. I do not know what they have told you about me, but what I've done, I've done for Aiur. Help me find Zeratul and his Dark Templar. They alone can defeat the Overmind's Cerebrates. Once we've won I'll gladly submit myself to the judgement of the Conclave.

Very nice, I always wanted an upgrade to walls. I hope they also improve the code which places walls too, so you no longer have walls on top of rocks or something. Oh, and a new building animation would be very welcome, so the walls don't just jerk upward while built.

I think the best part about this will be the grenadier upgrade(s), this will certainly help to balance gameplay.

With all this new research, I hope they allow you to queue up research like you can in the AOEmpires series.

Also to announce: the FIRST EMPIRES LEAGUE has begun!

if you already have empires, put this demo file:

Files.empiresleague.com

into your /empires/ folder, and type "playdemo match1" and after that ends "playdemo match1part2" into the console while in game to view the match. It's well worth seeing as these are some of the finest clans and commanders on the empires scene today, And the battle was exciting right to the end. Some superb commentary by our official league referees too.

Tanks have been nerfed enough in 2.0, they don't need to be even less effective by upgrading the infantry.

Now you're making it where the infantry can get even more upgraded? Tanks are supposed to overpower the infantry, not infantry overpowering the tanks.

You're the first i hear complaining about tanks not being strong enough, everyone else always complained that one tank could kill the entire enemy infantry team (which is kinda true).

Early ingame grenadiers can damage vehicles, however once the enemy has mediums/heavies with good armor not even 5 grenadiers will be able to take them down (unless they are driven by noobs ^^). So this rpg upgrade will make grenadiers also effective in late game, but won't change anything early ingame.

At this moment the rifleman stickies are more powerfull than the rpg, and they are the only reason why the first enemy vehicle rush doesn't end the game at once. IF the first vehicle rush doesn't end the game.

The question will be what would be most important in a certain situation: researching upgraded rpg's for infantry, or improved chassis/engine/armor/weapons for tanks.
- Upgraded rpg's is a one-time investment <=> you pay for every tank
- Upgraded rpg's can be used when there's no money for tanks, by everyone, at any time
- Grenadiers are still extremely vulnerable. One apc with chaingun can take down a gren in mere seconds, or even run him over <=> upgraded tanks can be very annoying to get past

its a pity, Krenzo is gone from empires. they have 3 new coders for him and they are working now on v2.2. with many bugfixes and orangebox-port (wich isnt easy, for the other mods too) and (what a luck) without crappy airplanes. i hope emp never get airplanes, they suck and are unimportant.
(perhaps later boats would be cool, submarines, mechs, helicopters, zeppelins, bicycles, rollerblades and other slow things. but NO jets! emp is not BF2!)
