I am prepared to spend hours behind that weapon, it is just that beautifully made.

its well made but i dont much like the design, the bow part for example doent look springy at all, it doesnt look like the powerful deadly thing it should -

- with the anims too i'd make the bow arms strech back with some creaky sound so make it feel you have some power in your hands rather than an elastic band on a peice of wood?

Soz if that sounds harsh, i just really like xbows in games and this would put me off a bit -

on the upside the action adn the arrows look good

Excellent suggestions! And no need to apologize at all - constructive crits keep the creative gears turning. It's all very much work in progress and I'll definitely keep your suggestions in mind when continuing my work on it. Cheers!

This doesn't seem to be something that works. How could it bend? Why doesn't it break? How do you aim? How is the string magically attached to the not-bending wood? o.o

Even if this would work it would break ever so easily. Oh, and it could fire with a minimal force. You'd be better off with throwing arrows.

Really, no offense but have you ever examined (the modeler) how crossbows work? Have you ever shot one, for that matter?

Some really good questions here! I do have to warn you - the weapon designs you'll see later on will break the laws of physics even more. But then again, it's only a game set in a fantasy universe where everything is possible, right?

Just kidding ;) Seriously though, you are very right - It certainly wouldn't work in real life at all but this time I chose design over realism. Thanks for your excellent remarks - I'll definitely keep them in mind when refining the weapon model!

Also don't get me wrong.. if I were a modeler in a commercial project and my job was to model a crossbow, I'd spend all time digesting books and documentaries about crossbows. I would search the net for diagrams and reference photos. I'd go and fire a crossbow and in the end, I'd most likely dream my nights about crossbows as well :)

However, when you work alone on a project this size on your free time, you have to make some compromises. The time it takes to design, model and animate a fully realistic crossbow is better spent creating a immersive and fun play areas (for example). For now the crossbow serves it's purpose and once everything else is done, I have always time to make it better. However, thanks again for your notes as they help me to enhance my designs in the future! Cheers!

Sorry for the wall of text, I just wanted to express my opinion in greater detail :)

I see that, I never intended to swear at your work, and I surely could have not achieved making a mod like this (I am still in learning C, anyway). Same goes for modelling and animating, which I am also studying in my free time.

I wonder, do you plan to finish this mod all alone? Other mods, such as PVKII, also have some contributed models (such as their very own crossbow and cutlass, I think).

For the time being I'm working alone but I've been thinking of having people join the development at some point - if the need arises (especially coders). However, first I need to plan the scale of the mod thoroughly and see how far I can go on my own. Of course either way I'm still going to need voice actors and composers to work on the dialogue and score.

Having contributed models sounds like a fine idea. I'll give it a serious thought :)

Good luck on your studies! Hit me with a message when you put something on show!
