A small grin, as I knew tonight was going to be an interesting one. I had requested my lover to meet with me on the next full moon. It appeared tonight, just as I expected. I said to him that we should take an adventure. Into the forest, far beyond the castle gate. I assured him that if we managed to get lost, we could easily find the river that leads home. Taking one last breath, I went inside. I had to finish packing snacks. Apples, breads, cheese, all things delicious with a touch of water to quench our thirst. As I finished wrapping the sack my mother startled me. "Going out tonight?", she asked. "Indeed, deep into the woods to play", I replied. "You should take your cloak", she hinted as she poked me with cloth I haven't seen in some time. Even though no clouds had been around, it was still the fall season and dark. I dressed in warm attire, covered head to toe. Double everything, socks, pants, long sweaters. My mother spoke once more, "You have fun and be safe tonight, ok?" I answered, "Yes mother, but it might be longer than just tonight. In fact, I'm not sure when we'll return." I gave her a final smile and small squeeze before heading out the door.I soaked in the cold chill of the air, I rather enjoyed it. Taking easy steps as I walked down the path. Tonight I wanted to relax. I kept my eyes open as I went, not that I'm afraid of the night. But you never know what's in the darkness. I spotted him as I rounded the corner. Chillin next to his gate, devoured in black. Looking delicious, as always. He gave me a wink my way with his dark green eyes."Shall I carry that for you?", he asked as he raised his hand. "I'm fine, thanks. You ready?", assuring him as I grinned. Raising his hand further he reached for my neck. "Just a moment", he whispered as he brought his face to mine. A gentle kiss with my lips as he pulled me towards him. We locked eyes for a second, until he tugged me along. I loved his beautiful green eyes. Even if I only got a glance, I enjoyed looking every time.It was quiet on the streets. Even more so during the cold seasons. Not even patrol would appear. As we wandered along, I tried to hear the soft noises from inside the houses. Sometimes the banter from the more rowdy of taverns and inns could be heard. The further we went I slowly drifted away into my own world. I felt safe around him. I could freely explore my thoughts without worry. Tonight I wanted him to be my guide.Nearing the end of the village and at the gate, we went to the guards. Both decked out in plate. Epic shoulder pads, chest piece, knee guards, with helmets that gave me cold chills. The female had one of the most badass swords I've ever seen. Too large for one hand it meant instant death if it hit someone. She also had two blades on her sides. He wielded a shield, with a sword on his side and one on his backside.Knowing them for some time, all it took was a simple nod. The gate towering over us started to budge, ever so slowly. As we crept past it our adventure had begun. For some time past the gate, all was silent. Only footsteps and creatures of the night. My mind started to drift once again, but he caught my attention."I should get you a war blade like that, perhaps even one for myself.", He started. I was in decent shape, getting stronger since meeting with him. But I doubt I could even lift such a beast. "Ha, I could barely lift the thing. I'd be from one of those old stories, a walking zombie, yet still dragging my blade around. Then in combat my swing would be so slow, even a turtle could dodge it.", I proclaimed. He joked, "You wouldn't even have to use it. With such a massive blade, even a dragon wouldn't dare approach you!"He did have a point. I would cover the blade and myself in skulls. Being still in the Dark Ages, it was easy to bring fear into the hearts of man. Shaded by nightfall, I would look like walking death. A sight to see, but not much else. I couldn't bring myself to use it, not against another human being. Nor another animal. Perhaps if the situation appeared, but even then I would think strongly against it.I never much enjoyed the thought of death, killing. To the point that I even became a vegetarian. However, I do carry around a dagger. I've been lucky thus far. The world as I knew it is a crazy place. Deadly creatures and evil humans lurked around every corner. Hate, war, murder, torture, and even worse things. Giving good reason to call this time period the Dark Ages.Even though I've had luck on my side all this time, I won't leave my fate up to it. I'm not one to be scared or have fears. I eat better than everyone else and keep my body in shape. Since knowing him I've started to jog quite a bit and even practice the deadly arts of being a ninja. Along with my regular workouts and adding his to my routine, I'm becoming quite the little badass.I wanted to relax as much as possible, but we're past the castle now. Screaming for help out here would only cause more enemies to appear. Ones who would feast on your flesh or stab you in the back for petty gold. With him by my side, I knew I was in good hands. But I still kept my eyes open. It was far too dangerous at night, getting deeper into the woods, and so close to the river. Every living creature gets thirsty and there isn't any better place to find a good meal.He gripped my hand tightly and spoke, "Did you sleep well? I was hoping to go deeper than we've ever went before." I answered, "Totally. The night owl inside you has leaked into me, I slept nearly all day." He giggled, "That's good, I'm glad you're well rested." I paused him, "With you as my guide, I would gladly venture to the ends of the Earth." He halted and began to tug on my hand. I stopped and turned to him. Wrapping his hands around me he squeezed, giving me a gentle hug.We stood still for a moment. His breath felt exhilarating, passing through my hair and reaching my neck. Nightfall was here and it was getting rather chilly. I welcomed the warmth. Even though we wouldn't be going to bed anytime soon, all I could think about was laying next to him and cuddling. When his body consumed mine there was simply no greater feeling in the world. It's as though he tore my chest apart and slammed his hand into my heart. Crushing it with his might before he ripped it from my body.He brought his right hand to where he once breathed and raised his lips to my ear. He began to whisper, "I cannot get enough of you my love. My feelings for you are so great, I don't want to comprehend what life would be like without you. The warmth you bring to my life pushes away even the darkest, coldest days of winter." The beat of my heart was relentless as I gazed into his eyes. The temptation to throw him to the ground was almost irresistible. My assault of kisses would be unstoppable. Before I could put my plan into action he had taken the sack from me. Slowly walking backwards, then steadily moving faster. He yelled, "Come!" He burst into sprint. As if some prey, I chased him. Rushing through the forest, leaping over anything that got in my path. He was the ultimate game, the world's greatest prize. Likewise, to defeat him it would take everything I had and then some. He was as good as me, if not better.Eventually we started to slow down. Our breathing was strong at that point. The jog lasted for a good hour, if not longer. I couldn't believe it. Never in my life have I traveled that far, let alone run. We continued to walk so that our blood could flow. While still sucking in gulps of air he started to talk, "Wow! That was amazing! I believe I’m finally starting to feel how powerful a vegetarian can be." I had converted him a number of years ago, around when we first met. Everyone says it was me. Well, yeah. I could snap my fingers and command him as though he was my own personal puppy dog. But I’m sure if I wasn’t around he would’ve still become one. He has such a massive heart."I think it’s time we setup camp. Rest and get something to eat. I’m getting rather hungry. I brought us a feast to munch on. Some of your favorite foods, in fact.", I told him as I whipped out a water bottle. I took a small sip at first, then quenching my thirst with a larger drink. I waited for him to put the largest blanket down before handing it over to him. He sucked on it for a while, wiping the remaining drips from his face with his hand. He put the remaining blankets down as I took a much needed seat.
