The Edain Mod aims to take you deeper into Middle-Earth than ever before and turn the Battle for Middle-Earth II into a game worthy of Tolkien's books and Peter Jackson's movies. In our quest for lore accuracy, visual quality and deeper gameplay, we overhauled every aspect of the original game to craft a new and immersive Lord of the Rings experience.

Edain 4.0 Demo [DONT'T AUTH]

If you experience any problems, check here for frequent issues and solutions:

Master the One Ring

While the One Ring has no lord but Sauron, there have always been those who sought to use its power for their own ends. In Edain, you no longer bring the Ring to your fortress to unlock just Sauron or Galadriel. Instead, you can give it directly to select heroes who will attempt to draw upon its powers, with varying consequences. Each faction has different Ring Heroes, allowing you to discover what could have been if Saruman the White had attained the One Ring, or if Denethor and Boromir had foolishly decided to use it as a weapon against the Enemy...

Fight Side by Side with the Heroes of the Third Age

The fate of Middle-Earth has always been shaped by great heroes and villains, many of which never appeared in a Battle for Middle-Earth game before. Edain gives you the opportunity to stand in battle with new heroes like Thorin Oakenshield and his companions, Beregond and Imrahil or the sons of Elrond. Those with evil in their hearts may instead choose to share in the power of villains like Smaug or the Necromancer of Dol Guldur...

Furthermore, every existing hero has received new abilities and mechanics to more accurately represent his role in the books and movies. Aragorn, for instance, will start out as the ranger Strider and go from the defender of Helm's Deep to King Elessar of Gondor over the course of the game, gaining new abilities each time he takes a new step towards his destiny. Similiarly, Theoden will now accurately transform from a defeated pawn under Saruman's control to the heroic king who fought on the Pelennor fields.

Command New Factions

Rohan and Lothlorien have been split from the Gondor and Rivendell factions to form new factions in their own right. The Rohirrim are a people of riders, evidenced by their powerful cavalry units, including the Royal Guard. Their infantry and archery are poor, but they can receive signifant aid from the inn by recruiting Elven archers and Druadan warriors. The Woodland Realm, on the other hand, lacks cavalry altogether. To compensate, they rely on unorthodox tactics such as stealth, speed and elven magic coupled with their formidable archers. They cannot easily expand their base, but all buildings are manned by archers to keep invaders at bay. Units like the animal empaths, who slow down enemy cavalry, and elven chanters, who support your army through their songs, provide veterans with exciting new strategies to master. Both factions also come with a completely unique set of spells, including powerful finishers like the Rohan spell, Last March of the Ents, which summons Treebeard and a host of Ents to your side.

Rediscover the Old Factions

All factions have been expanded with a large array of new units. Among them are the Gondor Citadel Guard, Lurtz's Uruk Scouts, Haldir's Galadhrim from the Battle for Helm's Deep and Orcs of Minas Morgul. All in all, Edain allows you to assemble your forces from a pool of twice as many units as before.

Furthermore, almost all existing units and heroes have received visual overhauls to eliminate issues like golden armor on Orcs and bring the visual style closer to the movies. For example, Aragorn will now wield the actual Anduril blade upon purchasing the respective spell instead of getting an exaggerated blue glow around his sword. Head to our gallery for more examples of the improvements we have made.

Follow your destiny... Middle-Earth awaits.

Edain 4.1 Demo Released

Khazâd ai-mênu, Companions of Edain!

Today, Patch 4.1 for the Demo of Version 4.0 has been published. You can download it directly with the launcher, just use the update function.

If you have any problems, as usual, visit our Support-Forum!

This update adds the Dwarves as a new playable faction. Build an impressive dwarven bastion, go into battle with Erebor, the Iron Hills or Ered Luin, and ally with the Men of Dale and Lake-town. Nearly all units got new abilities and at the head legendary heroes as Gimli, Thorin Oakenshield or Dain Ironfoot are fighting. Additionally, we eliminated many errors and improved and further developed the gameplay of Version 4.0. In particular, the War of the Ring has been continuously improved, so that the AI does not surrender easily and is able to use outposts and new buildings much more reliable.

Furthermore, the patch contains the following changes:

- The system of Fearlessness has been reworked. Banner carriers offer no longer resistance to fear for nearby troops. Instead, it is implemented through the following systems:

  • *The Captains of Gondor, who are promoted by Denethor (Gondor)
  • Aragorn's leadership at level 10 (Gondor)
  • Captains of Rohan have a passive ability (Elfhelm, Grimbold and Erkenbrand) (Rohan)
  • The leadership of the Drummer Troll (Mordor)
  • As a passive ability of the Isengard Captains (Isengard)
  • The leadership of the Banner Carrier on the Battlewagon (Dwarves)

- Mordor-Orcs got an unique active ability, when they are commanded by an Overseer. The basic idea was that the overseers of Mordor replace the function of upgrades, so that they increase the effectiveness of Orcs against special targets:

  • Mordor Fighters: The orcs deal double damage against other infantry, but get -25% armor for 30 seconds.
  • Mordor Archers: The archers deal double damage against other archer, but get -25% armor for 30 seconds.
  • Mordor Pikes: The pikes deal double damage against cavalry and monsters, but get -25% armor for 30 seconds.

- Many designs and elements of the Hobbit movies have been included, for example Dain Ironfoot, Thorin Oakenshield, Dwalin, King Brand or the Men of Lake-town:

Further information have been presented in our updates:

Also there are many balance changes:

  • Cost of Isegard Lumbermills has been increased to 200
  • Built-cost reduction of Lumbermills has been decreased to-10%, -20%, -30%
  • Saruman's Lightning on the Wizard Tower has been weakened
  • Cost of Steelworks has been increased to 3500
  • Cavalry does 20% more crush damage and additional 15% against archers, but is slowed down 25% more when crushing enemies
  • Lances deal 20% less damage when crushed
  • A bug caused that Gondor Spearmen dealt doubled damage when being crushed. This has been fixed
  • ,,Gandalf the White" increases Gandalf's magic damage by +50%
  • All heroes got +1000 health points
  • Heroes level 25% slower
  • Heroes got +30% armor against arrows, but -30% against other heroes
  • Monsters and single units are 25% more vulnerable against heroes
  • Flying units are 30% less vulnerable against arrows
  • Cost of Hero Statues has been decreased to 100
  • Cost of Wells has been decreased to 200
  • Defense Towers and other buildings with defenses deal 50% more damage
  • All trolls deal 25% less damage against buildings
  • Cost of the two normal Nazgûls to 1100
  • Cost of Gothmog to 1300
  • The damage bonus of Gothmog's ,,Storming of the City" is decreased to +60%
  • Faramir's melee damage is reduced by 10%
  • Shield Uruks: Health points reduced by 25%
  • Castellans: Health points reduced by 10%
  • Lindon-Guardians deal much less damage
  • Damage of the Mine of Isengards Spellbook has been reduced by 30%
  • Draft costs again 2 points
  • Peasants and Farmhands are trained 20% slower
  • Theoden's Traitor-ability had a massive bug: The ability was intended to convert only one troop of peasants into traitor, but if the player had many troops at the same place, all of them were affected. Therefore, the player was able to have much more traitors than he was supposed to have. Sadly, this bug can't be fixed, so that we had to rework the effect of the ability: The ability got a radius cursor and converts all the peasants in the area to traitors, but the traitors stay on the battlefield only for tree minutes. So, the player can decide how many traitors he wants, but he has to measure the risk that he will loose them after three minutes, against the fact that he gets strong infantry for that time. Now the traitors represent our idea that the player may early get strong troops, but not without some risks.

We hope you will enjoy playing!

A nice idea. But in my mind at-least. I don't like the trolls from the hobbit. Why? They are non-canon. Dol Goldur was never meant to be at the bofa, which annoys me to no end xD. A cool idea though. If many others agree with you, I would be totally fine with it personally, even despite my concerns. :-P

The fact that many things were non canon in the hobbit movie is an itchy moment for many people, i too didnt like some of it, so many things were wrong in the movie.
But the material used in the movie was totally great, all the new units, structures etc. provided Edain with much new material, such as the Dol Guldur orcs, elven units, MM units, heoes for all factions etc. which i think is great^^ But for me one thing that i was looking forward to was the BOFA trolls to be included in the game.
Just want to include them somehow..:)

I think that implemented Dol Guldur plot was the best thing in the whole Hobbit trilogy (Even if I have some comments regarding of some scenes) ;o)

Just an idea, might be stupid, but i think it would make alot of people happy^^

What if Dol Guldur got a spell to change either trolls or the troll cage?

Option 1. When you put the spell on a troll it gets the Dol Guldur armor, it gains a lot more durability. This spell would have a cooldown so you wouldnt be able to use it very often.

Option 2. You put the spell on the troll cage and all the trolls get Dol Guldur armor when upgraded. No bonus gained.

Option 3. No spell needed, when you choose to upgrade the troll (the first time) You choose between Dol Guldur armor or Mordor armor. Mordor armor comes with mace, and Dol Guldur comes with spike hands (check the bonus idea)

The Dol Guldur armor:
You could just use the chestplate of Mollok, the armor on the hands of the current ones(the one with spikes) fits them perfectly, the armor for their feet could be taken from the old Cah.
The only new thing that would have to be designed is the helmet and the shoulder pads.
The armor could be made a little bit darker, that way they would feel like a totally new unit.

Bonus idea: When the trolls have no weapon, they attack with their hands, like the trolls in BOFA. What if the spike hands were made as an update?

This way people who really like the BOFA trolls would be able to play with them, and it wouldnt affect the people who didnt like them.
Plus i dont think it would be that hard of a thing to do? But then again i dont know **** about modding so correct me if im wrong..:D

Think of this. In order to make such a spell, you must take out another spell to free a place for it. Now what spell Mordor has and you may think unsuitable?! In short; none. So I'm totally against such a spell idea which only upgrade Trolls.
The other option of making two upgrades is also doubtable. Simply people will always buy the more expensive one because they expect it to be more effective. If both are the same price and efficiency then the whole point of it is meaningless.

The suggestion was just to include the BOFA trolls for some players, option 2, the spell doesnt improve anything (not really a spell) it just alters the look of the trolls.
This would just be because many people liked the trolls, and some didnt. This way the people who didnt like them wouldnt have to use them, and those who liked them could use them after building Dol Guldur fortress:)
If you think about league of legends, do u know it?:D You can buy skins for your champions, this is pretty much the same idea, you just change the look of the trolls to improve the feeling^^

I just think this would be the easiest way to include the trolls from Bofa and satisfy most people, since it wouldnt affect the people who didnt like the them.

You could think im exxagerating the value of this mod,but i can only tell you : try with your hands. Edain mod is without any doubt the best RTS based on the LotR series, and, but this is just my opinion, the best RTS overall. While being much more true to tolkien than any other EA's work,it combines great complexity with good-balance in an excellent way. But what, above all things, makes this mod stand out are the models of the units, heroes and buildings, just take a look to the gallery on the site…

Mordor and other evil factions are overpowered including their heroes and ringheroes. Especially Lorien and Imladris are too weak and their ringheros are not powerful enough to be ringheroes (and Galadriel is far too weak to be Galadriel. Make it to be like in the Lone Wolf mod: two palantir and stronger powers, etc.)... All ringheroes should be as powerful as Sauron, because now it's not fair. Almost all good factions are underpowered. Ents should be better than trolls (except armoured ones), because…
