Around November, 2004, several students got together to brainstorm a concept for a total conversion of Valve's Half-Life 2 . After several days of brainstorming, the concept for Eclipse was born. In January of 2005, a group of Guildhall students composed of programmers, artists, and level designers were put together and formed what is now CelTech Studios. It was then that CelTech Studios made the commitment to produce the highest quality game possible in the short amount of time they had - five months. What emerged in late May was a game that is both stunningly beautiful and addictive to play.
Eclipse is a third-person total conversion of Valve's Half-Life 2 . It is an action adventure that features tactical, puzzle based combat, which forces the player to interact with the surrounding environment in order to survive. You play as a young Sorceress named Violet who has learned the secrets of Telekinesis. This allows Violet to easily find objects in the environment that she can pick up and throw. Once the player gets used to picking up objects and throwing them at targets, the movement of Violet becomes very important. Based on where an enemy is Violet might want to pick up one or more objects and then move about in order to get a good angle on her enemy before sending the objects flying in that direction.
As you journey through the different lands of Eclipse , you will uncover many secrets that will help you in defeating your enemies. You will also be able to unlock new abilities that Violet can use, such as Hellstorm - a powerful spell that allows Violet to summon up to three fiery orbs that explode upon impact and deal significant damage to nearby enemies.
Use Violet's power of Telekinesis to help protect you as you journey over distant lands in search of the ancient teleportation device near the Standing Stones. Battle your way through hordes of orc-like creatures known as Keepers as you make your way through the enchanted Blackmoor forest. Find Violet's ancestral burial grounds in the Barrow and unlock dark secrets that will aid you in your final stand at the Standing Stones.
After finishing the game you can unlock the Survival Mode mini-game. This allows you to test your skills with Hellstorm as you battle against wave after wave of enemies. Compare your stats with friends to see who really has what it takes to survive the Standing Stones - Survival Mode.

A hotfix has just been released for Eclipse.
This hotfix corrects some critical crash bugs due to changes to the SDK since the Mod's release. The hotfix can be found on the guildhall servers at:
Students.guildhall.smu.edu
The hotfix contains code previously unreleased to support for older video cards. While in mod will run on a Geforce2 or another Dx6 card. There are known issues with the mod's content. For more information about these known issues and their current status please view this thread in our forums:

have i told you how much i love you?
I always did wish there was more to the mod...A team should get together and make a bigger version of this using all the stuff...that would be cool.
This is a great mod. I wish there was more to it, but it was high quality and free!
hint: I figured out after a while that you have to power up what you levitate by holding down the mouse!
This mod was a college project, it's over, done, etc. The creators got their grades and have moved on to other, bigger projects. If the semester were longer, I'm sure they would have added another level or two, but it wasn't so voila; one of the most professional HL2 SP mods to date :)
Hello Eclipse fans, I have just added this page to my site. Unfortunately I can't really add anything on my site besides the review I got there, It was just a little too short :).

I can't believe some of the people on here commenting on how "bad this is", but why? Do you guys have any "real" reason why this is a bad mod? Can you do any better? This is one of the best looking HL2 mods that I have seen so far... where's your mod, let's see if you can do better...
An impressive, well-polished total conversion. Much higher quality than many mods that have had a much longer development period and still end up lacking in many areas.
Dont discount this game based on its length.
There are many games made to a high degree of professionalism which are relatively short, but you must ask yourself this question:
Would you rather the game be:
1. less professional, poorer details but LONGER?
or
2. More professional, far more detailed but SHORTER?
For me option 2 is the obvious choice. Not always can the development team achieve both quality and length, so it has to be a combination of the two. I definetly prefer quality over quantity, as does the majority of the gaming community, if this was otherwise the industry would be as hard pushed as it is today to produce games of greater and greater graphical and technological brilliance.
The eclipse team should be satisfied knowing that the only reason people criticise the game for being short is because they liked it so much they wanted more! Thats certainly what every game developer could only hope to achieve in releasing a mod.
Congratulations and good luck in your future endeavours.
Its not a matter of how well THEY can code, they are expressing their opinion on the mod that they played.
i love it how some of you retards insult a mod i would love to see some of you do better
Although I didn't enjoy this mod as much as others I have played; the graphics were amazing, the gameplay was great and overall, I was shocked to see this mod was made on the source engine.
