ESF Is a Fast Paced, 3rd Person Fighter Based On The Hit Anime, Dragonball Z

Select your favorite character and fly, power up, transform, melee, and beam your enemies into pulp. Each character is given signature moves and abilities to compliment different style of play. Some are stronger in hand to hand combat, others are better with energy attacks. Play in three different game modes, deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the dragonballs. There is a learning curve so newbies beware. This is not your normal Half-life mod.

Quick Update

1 month ago News 19 comments Report

Hi Guys, Sorry for the silence. Hopefully this will make up for it.

Here's what's been going on lately.

Mastasurf has added some animated buoys, an animated boat and a blimp to the Roshi Island map

Ryo has updated the grass shader

Darktooth is close to finishing his animation library which will help speed up animating the remaining models

Dalte has updated a bunch of the beam fx

Raven, Ryo, and Andy held a coding session 2 weeks ago and fixed the map change / map restart crash bug so hopefully now we can change maps with no problems

See you guys soon

Just admit it guys I have right when I'll write these lines.
What's happening here is a big misunderstanding between you and your fans.
I'm pretty sure that the rest of the team working on something else, maybe they are working at big companies, like Blizzard Entertainment ,Gameloft etc.
When you realize that this isn't a fan project anymore.
This is a joke.
If you guys are a team, then help each oter.
For example,I can make two low poly character within 3 days with UV-s and full textures.
Depends on the details which is the painting.
If There are two free man of the team who is a full time developers then there is no problem here.
But this article is big disgrace.
I can imagine this our mode is a portfolio or you have to wait for final for release.
The developing is ******* slow, just accept it.
I remember you guys are killed many promises project with your behavior.
These were the facts.
To be honest if the mode would be finished tomorrow, then i don't give a ****.
Y'all it's 2015.

Not one of us has a job in the gaming insustry actually. We are individuals working on this thing in our spare time. Thats aside from our jobs, families and other obligations.

There is no full indie developers and ESF will not come first place in our lives. Yes we want to finish it, but it will always have second place to things that are simply more important to us than a free project.

I can mostly speek for myself when i write this. My regular 40+ hour/week job is being an operator on a CNC cutting laser, im also a volunteer firefighter. So that along with my friends will come before ESF. And i am fairly certain the rest of the people working here have similar ideas. Just add families and kids to the mix for a few of them.

So yes a hobby project that happens to be a free modification is progressing slowly. And we are not the ones who need to accept that. We know that. It also wont change regardless of how much people bicker about it.

Conclusion: Think what you will and do what you want, but dont go asuming things that are totally wrong to begin with.

game_maker01 May 24 2015 replied:

I never said this project has to be in the first place In your live guys.
You are misunderstood me again.
Of course everyone has their own life, like, school work, family.
These are the most important things in the real life.
Everyone knows it.
I'm watching this mode since the beginnings.
ESF Is a Fast Paced, first statement, and here is the source of misunderstanding between you and your fans.
I'm not a outsider,Because I'm programmer.
The team changed the design in 2009,When you left benhind the good old BSP and you guys are started using 3d models in the level design.
and here
I checked the old news.I saw few good levels, and characters, animations effects etc.
Ok,this is the point where will we stop and we make a small release in 2011 with few maps and characters with a couple of bugs which is totally acceptable.
It would have been wiser solution. Then later we will make changes.
There are always bugs, even in the biggest games.
Of course we are talking about a multiplayer game.
The truth is the character modellers got years. I saw your article in 2014 where you wrote that you need character modellers,WTH is this?
I said this is disgrace, and I thnik now it is.
Now,The whole thing is look like for me like a cake shop. Wow cool look like, environment, weather system which is good things but the point is the gameplay.
You folks are changed the design multiple times, which killed the project for me.
Guys,if you are too busy fine with me. I believe the last solution is the full open source way.If you have no other options.
The developer tools are available.Question, are you thinking about this?
Think what you want, but don't tell me,there would be few people who has free time and they are volunteers.Programmers.Animators.
That's all I Think.

nedgi May 26 2015 replied:

One thing i dont understand is this:
Why dont those animators, modellers, etc help the team now ?
I mean they have had an application opened for modelling for so long and i dont think that anyone has stepped forward yet, what makes you think that they would suddenly appear once the source came out ?
Releasing an open source could help a bit i agree, but the most part would be ****** models and low quality add-ons to the game and i doubt the team needs that.
Just look at ZEQ2 lite and see what i mean.

game_maker01 May 26 2015 replied:

If you are listened to me, I'm talked about the original team when they were active.
Grega didn't replied to me ok I accepted that.
They had years for everything, and this is my opinion.
OK it seems to me, they would like to finish this mode without sharing.
Thereafter everything is their business, this was my last comment here.
About zeq2 ,their first release was in 2009 which was the public beta 1.
In my eyes they aren't different.
Ok the project is open source, fans are working on it,but and here is the point the official dev team is lost.
They changed the engine and the Unity project is nowhere as I see. -.-
In not going to following them.

Grega May 26 2015 replied:

Yea sorry was a tad occupied.

Well as far as the "fast paced" thing goes. Thats a description of the gameplay.

But as far as going open source goes. That would be preety much the same as giving up and throwing what we have in to a trash bin. It means we essentially throw the mod away and anyone who wants can take from those scraps. Besides open source hasnt done MechMod any favours either. It simply faded in to nothingless. And it was one of the first mods to add stuff like water reflections and bloom in to the HL engine back in the day. So thats not really an option.

najeebshah Jun 1 2015 replied:

open source is not throwing to trash , its a fail safe grega . if you believe that you are not throwing it away either case then open sourcing wont damage anything , its not a commercial project for gods sake

Grega Jun 1 2015 replied:

Its not a commercial project, but it essentially means we are throwing away our own idea for how it should be. I didnt mean that Open Source itself was trash, i like the idea of open source for manny things. But just not for games. Since that essentially means that if you put it there, you are giving up on your own idea for the game and are letting people do whatever.
