Version 1.2 Main Features (released)

- New Sun Shafts aka "God Rays" (totally new implemented) with additional sun effects
- Dynamic rainbows
- Adaptive Night Vision Scopes, now also switchable by keypress
- Dynamic Depth of Field and Zoom DoF
- Reflective suit visors (from the outside and the inside)
- Reflective lighting optimized (slightly improved lighting model)
- NEW: Thermal/Infrared Vision

Version 2.0 Main Features (upcoming)

- Reflective dynamic wet surfaces (totally new implemented)
- Indoor light reflections in selected places
- animated dust for sun shafts
- Soft Shadows - Improved shadow jitter implementation

Further improvements:
- Semi-transparent HUD cross-hair of selectable color
- Improved Parallax Mapping
- Added jitter and edge distortion to night vision scopes and NV binoc
- Sharpen effect as another depth of field improvement
- Fixed DDOF distance measurement when aiming to the sky
- support for all 41 levels of the extended Kostya's STALKER Map Pack
- support for mods with zoom-less weapons (to still have zoom DOF in aim mode)
- support for modified FOV (Field Of View), like with FOV-Switcher tools
- improved/fixed motion blur behavior

As expectable the frequently requested Beta release is not yet bug free, and there is also room for improvements. A first patch shall address the most urgent issues reported by users.

Patch 1 for Dynamic Shaders 1.2 Beta will be small archive containing a set of important changes.
Planned contents:

  1. Hotfix: Eliminates over-bloom / blurry overall image experienced under certain conditions
  2. Hotfix: Prevents rainbows from "bouncing off" at the skybox edges under certain conditions
  3. Hotfix: Heavily reduces lag during startup and loading game when visors are enabled
  4. Improvement: Makes visor reflections look smoother thus more realistic using bloom.

The patch is currently being tested and is supposed to be released in a few days.

Further refinements

The upcoming patch will not be the last set of improvements for the Dynamic Shaders mod, of course. Playtesters are currently applying tweaks to the given feature set, such as improved parallaxing, lighting refinements, and better balanced overall settings.

My apologies for bothering you yet again. NPC grenades no longer explode. They get thrown but then they just... sit there. I can even pick them up. While I highly doubt this problem arose from Dynamic Shaders, it has only started happening since I installed the mod. Any ideas?

That is a fairly common bug (and definitively not coming from Dynamic Shaders). I recall there's a fix but I don't remember what exactly you'd have to do to solve the issue. Have a look (do a search) in the official GSC forums, I'm nearly sure it has been discussed there.

Forgot to mention, you are likely to get such issues if you just *copied* the scripts files of DS over your mod. At least the bind_stalker.script needs to be *merged*, not only copied (as mentioned in the install description).

Yes, they are. They are newer than the DS 1.1 download.

However there will be a version 1.2 pre-release containing some (but not all) of the new features very soon - so stay tuned :)

Just go an re-install those mods one after the other onto a clean vanilla setup and test after each mod installation whether the issue starts appearing or not, then you'll see fairly quickly which mod (or, mod combination) might be responsible for the issue.

I wouldn't be aware of any general incompatibility between Dynamic Shaders and those mods.

Solved! :) for any others experiencing this issue, find the r2_sun_near_border key in the user.ltx file, and change the value to "1." from "0.66" (original value may differ).

feel a bit stupid... turns out vanilla ShoC has the issue, though I've never had it before. I suspect I've clocked too high or botched some or other Nvidia setting. Thanks for your help.

No problem. SoC is quite prone to such graphical glitches, especially with some GPUs. Once I had to disable each and any Nvidia hardware feature to get the game running flawlessly. OCing may result in such issues as well.

Will we get an improved ALPHA or did you eventually think about a new BETA release?

Yeah I know. the pre-release time is the hardest time as well ;) I had planned to release an alpha / CTP version already weeks ago but unfortunately ran into various hard- and software troubles I'm still sort of fighting. This, among other (real life) things, kept me from preparing a halfway stable build lately, however as soon as I've been able solve those issues you will get your alpha version :)
