This mod fixes what Ubisoft left unfixed. Dylan's Realism Mod changes Far Cry 2 from an Africa-based sedan and pickup truck simulator into a (semi accurate) African conflict simulator. Realistic weapon damage, recoil, realistic ammo loads and weapon reliability have been added, along with a more effective stealth suit, and revamped AI weapons. (No more SPAS12s and AR15s for militiamen). Checkpoint AI has been tweaked as well. Checkpoint guards now have a 60% chance to chase you after passing through, as opposed to 90%-100% in vanilla. Militiamen also communicate more frequently in combat, and use suppressing fire more often. However, you are now as vulnerable as the AI. A single burst of rifle fire can kill you, so you are probably going to need that extra ammo and stealth suit.

Description

Finally, a new release! Full changelog is below. The main change in this version is the changes that I made to the multiplayer game. Like always, the changes aim to make Far Cry 2 more realistic. I haven't tested them, so if you set up a server, message me so I can join in! Thanks to everyone who has made this mod possible, either through aiding in development (thanks to user BegunValkery for the extra patch files), or simply downloading the mod, spreading the word, and playing Far Cry 2 as it was meant to be played.

Changelog from the readme.

Version 1.4\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
-More AI tweaks this time.  Enemies are even more likely to use grenades in combat, especially when you are in a building.  AI are less likely to chase you from long range (ex. sniping), however
they will use the flare gun more often to call for reinforcements.

-I moved some of my changes to the MP game, such as the higher damage and increased ammo upgrades. Regular MP has double the weapon damage, and Hardcore has about well, double its vanilla damage levels.  (4x the levels of vanilla FC2 Non-HC)  I haven't been able to test any MP modding, so message me if you are hosting a server.

-Shotgun manuals now improve range as well.  The SPAS12 manual has an extra 10% accuracy/range bonus, since in vanilla it was like a .410 loaded with ratshot.

-I increased the chance that you will find grenades/ammo on a dead enemy.  It seems odd that they can shoot at you for hours and only drop 15 rounds of ammo.

-Player health has been decreased even further.

-I have recieved several suggestions that I remove malaria from the game.  I won't.  I want to make the game more fun, not easier.  However, I did increase the amount of time before you have to get more pills.

-Once again, I have included "Gibbed" Rick's FC2 modding tools.  All credit for those goes to him.

-I am working on more complicated things that stat editing, though.  However, the Dunia engine has no SDK besides the one included in the mod.  Modding the Dunia engine farther than stat changing is not exactly easy.  I could count the number of Far Cry 2 mods on my hands.  So, don't be mad if I can't remove checkpoints or change some core gameplay facet that it took Ubisoft a dev team to code.

Does this mod reduce chance of weapon jamming? I am not entirely against weapon jamming but it happened too many times in Vanilla FC2 to the point that it got annoying not challenging.

Why do people hate the malaria system anyways? Takes like a second to pop a pill.

The reason I don't like it is because it feels like a completely necessary gameplay component that forces the player to stop what they're doing to get more pills when they run low. The game is long enough as it is, having to drop everything and go on a pill run was always a chore I didn't want to do. It was never fun for me, I was forced to do it just so I wouldn't die.

How do you think real malaria is?

Real malaria is nothing like it is in this game. Having to take your magic pills that instantly stop all affects for the next 30 or so mins. For a game based on realism this malaria is nothing more than an annoyance.

You're supposed to take malarial pills before you go into the trouble area and then take them every week when you're there. Both the amount of pills you take, the frequency and how quickly they take effect makes about zero sense.

Just downloaded and installed this.

Played about 2 hours worth of rolling around attacking checkpoints and POIs. Was epic fun.

An eternal thank you, from me to you, MSgtDylan, for making this mod.

Absolutely fantastic work, friend. :)

Dylan you are a legend. I've gone from 2 hours playtime on steam from the vanilla game - I couldn't stomach its flaws - to 21 hours playing your 1.3 mod and declaring that this has to be one of my favourite games of all time.

However, you HAVE TO play this game with my graphics config I released yesterday - in cohorts with your mod it elevates this game to spectacular heights.

I see you've commented on the release and glad you enjoyed it! I am linking to your mod in my comments section.

For anyone wondering about checkpoints, the changes made by this mod makes them a lot easier to deal with.

Checkpoints still respawn absurdly quick, but its not as big a deal because enemies don't take 10+ bullets to kill anymore. For anyone wondering if they should reinstall Far Cry 2, but hesitate because checkpoints and malaria are still in the game, do it. Buy yourself the springfield and enjoy actually being able to snipe because enemies will die in one hit like you would think.

After installing it, I realized it wasn't the malaria or checkpoints that made the game a steaming unplayable pile, it was the gunplay, and how enemies would never die.

Hmm, can you slightly lower the weapon damage? Right now I am killing guys with one shot, which seems a bit too much overkill - I'd like to see more wounded people in the game.

Great mod so far though - Unless you need to start a new game to see all of the changes, in which case I can not comment fully on it :P.

Personally, I'd like to see the assault rifles to kill in roughly two or three shots, and pistols and smgs in three or four or so. This would make headshots more important, as well as bring back people being severely wounded.

I mean - Right now people die due to a single 5.56 bullet to the arm, which is a bit too much IMO.

Hello MSgtDylan!

I have a problem. I have FC2 with the latest patch, after installing the No Steam Version of your great mod, game is worked perfectly, but I can't install the Russian language to game. I can install Russian language only with Extra Version of mod, but on Extra Version i can't go to the graphics settings in game. Game crashed.
I also wanted to ask, can you make this?
1 Make decals unlimited? ( I now this mod, but it uses same files as yours)

2 Change distance to respawn enеmies on checkpoint. In the original, this is 200 meters or something like that. I'm not asking to remove them (because it is impossible), but this distance can be change in settings?
Sorry for my bad English.

Regards Arty

Has somebody also the problem that you can move the weapon down for a little moment after a shot ? The mouse seems to be locked for under a second. Only with hand guns, not wie stationary MGs. Has this something to do with the new recoil. It makes fast aiming really hard

Meant to sign in first, my bad. Not sure if my guest comment went through or not.

"No luck with this. I have a legit, non-Steam copy of the game, and I've tried both the non-Steam and extra patch files and they both give me the same problem. I launch the game, it goes through the intro videos, and as soon as it should get to the menu, the game just shuts off. No error messages or anything, it just closes."

Okay, this makes sense, I just tried the STEAM patch files and they worked. My version is digital DRM-free from Amazon.

Obviously the files are mismarked.

Will this mod make it "easier" to be sneaky, i mean that as in if you have knife someone or use the machete they just fall to the ground scream and then you have to do a takedown... I don't want that i want just them to die so i can move to the next person.

TL;DR Does this make it possible to take out outpost silently?

Last I knew, the machete still alerts everyone to your presence. You're still better off with the suppressed weapons. Silent machete insta-kills has been Dylan's most common request.

What's the difference between Extra Version and others versions in the archive?

'Cause I am playing on the hardest difficulty and my sniper rifle has only 15 bullets for reload, but in youtube videos it has 25 bullets. Also enemies have not so much bullets in their guns, just 3-6 bullets more often.
However, mod is great and it's really makes gaming process more challenging. Thank you for your work! =D

I had an idea about the outpost respawn problem. Now I'm not a modder, so take this with a grain of salt. But I've noticed that when you clear the guards from a camp site, they don't come back. Would it be possible to modify + extend + tie these mechanics to outposts?

Only one thing I'm cautious about, do AI still have pinpoint accuracy? I could see that being an issue with increased damage...
